Full Job Description
The Sterile Microbiology Technician performs quality control testing on samples received from clients, and is responsible for general upkeep and maintenance of laboratory and its quality systems.
Duties and responsibilities
• Follow all safety precautions, use appropriate PPE where required.
• Document all data in compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as outlined in 21CFR210 and211.
• Perform quality control testing on clients’ samples, including but not limited to: sterility testing conventional and rapid, environmental monitoring analysis, microbial limits, bioburden, particulate count, container closure integrity and endotoxin testing – as demonstrated by proper training and as directed by Group Leader or Lab Director.
• Perform all quality functions necessary to run an efficient and effective laboratory, such as but not limited to: clean glassware, monitor temperatures, disinfection of hoods and benches, processing waste (daily garbage, biohazardous and chemical waste), perform environmental monitoring in laboratory, and mop floors.
• Log samples into laboratory as they are received.
• Maintain inventory and list supplies to be ordered.
• Receive incoming materials in proper manner.
• Prepare microbiological media and perform the requisite quality control tests on prepared media.
• Maintain culture collection; prepare growth support culture and other inoculation cultures
• Immediately report any Out of Specification (OOS) results or Deviations to test method to Group Leader or Laboratory Director and assist in the investigation.
• Updates customers if directed by laboratory management.
Qualifications
Employee will have documented education from an accredited university in biology or chemistry. Laboratory experience in a cGMP environment is preferred.
