This is a multi-level position and the salary range for this position varies and is commensurate with skills, experience, and education.
POSITION CONCEPT
The Data Engineer is a technical expert and responsible for the full life cycle development, implementation, 24X7 application production support, and performance tuning of the Enterprise Data Warehouse, Data Mart, and Business Intelligence Reporting and Analytics environments and solutions.  This includes SAP BW4/HANA, HANA Enterprise, SQL Server, Oracle, and Microsoft Azure environments. This position will provide overall technical solutions and design for Agile Business Intelligence Reporting and Analytics competency. Areas of responsibility include Data Architecture, Data acquisition, ETL (Extract Transform Load) design, development, Data Analysis, Reporting, and implementation of large-scale solutions and applications spanning Business, Financial, Operations, Technology, and other related areas of the company. Additional areas include leading technical discussions, code reviews, solution design documentation and defining overall best practices and standards as related to data integration and reporting. Utilizes appropriate development tools and technologies in keeping with the IT architecture.

Advancement to a higher level is based on value added to the Company through increased duties, responsibilities, and accomplishments.  Advancement is not automatic, i.e. not based solely on time in the job, but will be based on the employee’s performance, qualifications, and the business and/or technical needs of the department.
Please keep in mind that these are the minimum requirements for a Data Engineer position. This position does have various levels, so if an applicant meets more of the preferred skills, they may qualify for a higher-level position within the Data Engineer job family
Data Engineer
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.    Work with business stakeholders, analysts, software developers and architects to build comprehensive data-driven applications including analytical and reporting use cases.
2.    Translate business and functional requirements into robust, scalable, operable solutions that work well within the overall data architecture.
3.    Design and develop operational and strategic analytic and reporting solution (visualization) as per the customer needs by using the analytic and reporting tools available in the landscape
4.    Design, develop, implement, test, document, and operate large-scale, high-volume, and low latency applications.
5.    Designs data integrations and data quality framework.
6.    Develops and maintains scalable data pipelines and builds out new API integrations.
7.    Conceptualize, design, model and deploy conceptual, logical, and physical data models across a multi-tiered landscape.
8.    Develop, implement and/or extend production-quality data warehouse systems including database schemas, targeted data marts, enterprise data warehouses, and the ETL pipelines that load these systems in SAP HANA, SQL Server, Oracle and Microsoft Azure platforms
9.    Manage stakeholder communication, prioritization of tasks and on time solution delivery.
10.    Participate in the full development life cycle, end-to-end, from design, implementation, and testing, to documentation, delivery, support, and maintenance.
11.    As a dedicated member of an agile development team, work closely with the entire team to create a common technical vision, assist with sprint planning, groom product backlogs, and drive and/or delegate high-quality deliverables as required.
12.    Produce comprehensive, usable dataset documentation and metadata.
13.    Evaluate and make decisions around the use of new or existing software products and tools.
14.    Help develop next generation data platforms such as an enterprise scale cloud-based Data Lake
15.    Design and develop new systems and tools to enable development and admin teams to better identify and troubleshoot issues.
16.    Provides 24x7 primary and/or secondary support for one or more applications classified as niche, core, or mission critical.
17.    Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
SUPERVISION
Direct Supervision: None.
Indirect Supervision:  Resources assigned during the duration of the project including both analysts and contract resources.
Supervise contract resources as assigned.
Responsible for staff augmentation, and vendor relationships and ensures there is adequate support for all assigned applications for both day-to-day operations and on-call support.
RELATIONSHIPS
Internal:    Will interact with all levels of team members throughout the organization including frequently with IT support groups and all business and technical stakeholders of the BIA solution.
External:    SAP, Microsoft, Oracle, Consultants (System Integrators, Offshore Teams), Contractors, Customers, Vendors.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Required:    Bachelor’s degree in Information/Computer Science, Data/Information Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, or equivalent discipline.
Preferred:    At least one professional certification in specific job-related disciplines preferred in addition to the requirements above.
Direct Experience
Required: Minimum of 8 years of direct work experience performing the Duties & Responsibilities of this position or performing duties closely related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position.
Minimum of 8 years of recent experience in business intelligence application development.
Minimum of 8 years of recent experience in of recent hands on experience with data / information modeling, (including the design and deployment of both normalized and dimensional data structures) as well as state-of-the-art ETL, cleansing, profiling and metadata management tools (including installation, configuration and tuning, security management, design and application development).
Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience with state-of-the-art platforms: SAP BW4/HANA, HANA Enterprise, SQL Server, Oracle, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft PowerBI etc.
Preferred:  Gas or Electric utility experience in data/information management
Experience working in large public or private-sector organizations
Experience in Big Data/HADOOP
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)
Required:
•    Knowledge of and hands on experience with SAP and Microsoft Azure suites (ETL, service bus and data quality tool components) as well as understanding and hands on experience of SAP HANA, SQL Server, Oracle, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft PowerBI, SAP Analytics Cloud etc. Reporting and Analytic platforms and ability to provide thought leadership regarding their deployment and implementation
•    Knowledge of and experience in ETL application design standards as well as in designing and implementing such applications.
•    Ability to establish/contribute to design standards and to design and build BIA applications in support of a wide array of ‘use cases’, including OLAP, ad hoc, standard reports, data mining, dashboards and scorecards.
•    Ability to establish/contribute to design standards and to design and implement semantic layers that support a variety of audiences – for example, developers and power users.
•    Design and deployment of report scheduling and bursting approaches.
•    Knowledge of and experience with deploying, scheduling, and managing ETL processes.
•    Knowledge of and experience with the development of standards for and the implementation of data architecture in big data and data warehouse/data mart contexts.
•    DBMS knowledge (query optimization, indexing strategy, etc.) on, for example, the SAP HANA, Oracle, SQL Server, and Microsoft Azure platforms.
•    Knowledge of and experience with data and process modeling using CASE tools such as ERWin or System Architect and the ability to effectively utilize tools to develop models
•    Knowledge of and experience with ETL application performance monitoring and management techniques.
•    Knowledge of and experience with ETL application testing approaches and techniques.
•    Knowledge of and experience with data analysis techniques in a data warehousing context.
•    Knowledge of and experience with data cleansing tools and practices.
•    Knowledge of and experience with approaches for deploying vendor-provided analytic solutions (for example, from SAP, Oracle, or other vendors).
•    Ability to contribute to design and implement security models at both in a DBMS and in an ETL tool.
•    Ability to provide technical support for Master Data Management and Data Governance initiatives (e.g., metadata management, data profiling and data quality assessment)
•    Knowledge of data asset life cycle management approaches.
•    Knowledge of disk storage capacity planning.
•    Knowledge of meta-models and metadata management tools.
•    Knowledge of BIA tool performance monitoring and management techniques.
•    Multidimensional database knowledge, including the ability to contribute to design and implement agreed upon design and optimize performance
•    Data modeling – Ability to read and understand normalized data models and ability to contribute to design of complex dimensional data models at the logical and physical level and then implement the same

Preferred:
•    Demonstrated knowledge of SAP Utilities Solutions (ERP, CRM, EAM/WAM et al).
•    Demonstrated knowledge of Electric Grid Solutions such as ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management System), EMS (Energy Management System), AMI/MDM (Advanced Metering Infrastructure/Meter Data Management), Intergraph GIS (Geographical Information System)
•    Demonstrated knowledge of Gas Utility Operations solutions such as ESRI GIS, Gas SCADA, Gas Management System, Meter Reading Systems etc.
•    Knowledge of fundamentals of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning etc.), Block Chain etc.
•    Ability to assess emerging business & regulatory changes and articulate how these can positively impact the Company.
