ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
Molecular Medicine is a basic science department in the Morsani College of Medicine.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This individual will perform more complex technical and research functions on projects involving mice, including mouse colony management. He/she will plan and conduct experimental protocols within the framework of the research objectives as well as provide analysis and draft portions of reports. He/she will modify and adapt standard procedures to meet the needs of the project under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or other leadership positions within the laboratory.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs more complex technical and research functions on projects involving mice, including mouse colony management. Plans and conducts experimental protocols within the framework of the research objectives.
Perform routine and more complex technical tasks to assist co-workers in the laboratory. Responsibilities include: collecting and analyzing data and specimens, and interacting with students and other laboratory staff.
Assist in the characterization of mice, immunohistochemistry, behavior tests, etc. Maintains automated histology and immunohistochemistry instruments.
Prepare reports on experiments and data for review and analysis by the research supervisor.
Assist in general laboratory inventory and maintenance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a natural or medical science and 2 years of research experience; or a Master's degree in a natural science. Progressively responsible experience involving scientific laboratory or field work may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree.
PREFERRED:
Preference will be given to those with extensive mouse breeding and colony maintenance experience. 1 to 2 years of full-time employment in molecular biology or cell biology laboratory is highly desirable.
