Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the CTC director, the Laboratory Project Manager is responsible for managing projects and requests coming through the lab from internal and external customers.  Responsible for planning the test program; conducting proper investigations; reviewing the data to ensure accuracy; and completion of the reports in a timely manner, while working as an effective member of the Technical Services and Quality Assurance Team to achieve operational goals and objectives as well as providing superior customer experience.
Job Responsibilities
• Reports directly to the CTC Director and coordinates efforts related to the projects/requests from internal and external customers
• Help develop new operational methods to reduce costs and produce a more consistent feed to the plant
• Perform daily work area inspection and sign required documentation
• Be primary point of contact for all new projects and requests
• Review and approve of the scope of all projects in terms of order and extent of testing to be performed
• Assign project responsibilities to personnel
• Prioritize projects
• Review all laboratory test results prior to preparation of reports
• Final review and issuing of reports to clients
• Audit of all equipment calibrations
• Assist CTC Director with Safety related training and meetings, maintain a safe and environmentally compliant operation
• Set schedule expectations with clients (internal and external) and ensure “on time” delivery of work product
• Implementation of efficiency improvements (processes, training, equipment)
• Work closely with our technical services group to support customers with field-related issues as needed
Qualifications
• Minimum 7 years of experience in high-volume research and development laboratory, preferably in cement and concrete industry
• Master’s degree in material science /engineering
• Previous team leadership experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Must be computer literate with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and possibly mine planning software
• Excellent written/verbal communication skills
• Able to analyze information to drive initiatives
• Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects successfully
• Strong technical systems aptitude
• Ability to prioritize
• Superior interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate and communicate with lab staff and customers
• Customer orientation
Working Conditions
• Capability to work extended hours as necessary
• Ability to work with standard office/computer equipment
• At times, requires working in hot, dusty, or wet conditions with exposure to loud noises
Physical Requirements
• Requires walking, sitting, lifting
• Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently
• Job involves sitting most of the time, but also involves walking or standing for brief periods of time
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate with customers
