Position Summary:
As the Phlebotomy Trainer and EmpowerMe Wellness, you will primarily be responsible for traveling to communities to train and educate our students. The ideal candidate will be someone who has worked and excelled at every level of phlebotomy but is looking to graduate to the next level by teaching the art form. This team member will spend a great portion of their time traveling to communities to train and educate our students.
Essential Duties:
• Maintains efforts of a less than 2% recollection or cancellation rate through corrective training
• Areas of concern are recorded on the CAF (Corrective Action Log) upon findings and are reported to leadership
• Engages, inspires, and ignites the confidence of his or her audience
• Identifies and corrects common learning room problems as well as learning issues their students may experience in a tactful manner
• Communicates effectively with appropriate follow-up to leadership
• Complies with all company policies
• Performs clerical work, faxing, and printing
• Completes and maintains a history of training employees
• Assists with completion of initial and annual competency and compliance training
• Assists with field training/corrective training
• Works closely with the Director of Support Services to ensure proper implementation and go-live of new communities and monitor daily operations and compliance standards
• Understands the daily operations and required maintenance for the job at hand
• Performs phlebotomy (per age-related standards) and specimen processing
• Provides adequate post-phlebotomy care
• Reviews and records refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA records
• Labels and processes samples according to established protocols and policies
• Effectively obtains samples from patients
• Demonstrates competency for age-related (geriatric) patients
• Demonstrates competencies for age-related responsibilities
• Conducts follow-up on outstanding orders remaining on manifest/draw log
• Requests/obtains written orders with all necessary information (ICD-10, patient demographics) for placement into lab LIS
• Presents a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor and appearance while providing quality services to communities assigned
• Follows The Joint Commission National Patient safety goals regarding obtaining two patient identifiers and handwashing at the time of draw
• Communicates with community staff (nursing/physician) and company leadership about problems with specimen collections
• Maintains a safe working environment and is accountable for practicing safe workplace practices for self and patients
• Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Education, and/or Experience:
• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Five years of phlebotomy experience
• Three years of experience in training and educating
• Phlebotomy Certification
• Expert-level communication skills
• Able to transition between virtual and in-person classroom teaching
• Driven and able to work independently without direct supervision
• Extensive knowledge in the world of phlebotomy, understands best practices surrounding technique, patient experience, compliance, safety, and other regulatory standards created by EmpowerMe Diagnostics
• Phenomenal time management skills
• Extremely organized and capable of multi-tasking
Computer Skills:
Proficiency in Internet browsers (e.g., Explorer, Chrome, Firefox), as well as advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs: Outlook, Excel, Word, and Publisher applications. Familiar with Laboratory LIS software programs. Efficient with the use of technology.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
• 80% of time traveling, teaching, and training on related aspects of the role within the community
• 20% of time participating in the duties of a Clinical Lab Assistant
• Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements
• Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors
• Fine dexterity with hands, steadiness
• Must be able to perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently to constantly throughout the date
• Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
• Frequent keyboard use/data entry
• Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping
• Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
