We’re a diverse network of people driven by our shared ambition to shape a better future. Here, we have the ability to learn and grow at the speed of technology, and the space to create within every role. Together, we are moving the world forward – and you can too. Dream it. Build it. Do it here.
What you’ll be doing...
We’re expanding rapidly to enable the next-generation Verizon security strategy. The Cyber Defense Engineering team is responsible for designing/building capabilities to support the critical Cyber Defense organization and its missions.
You will be an agent for change driving the expansion of our User and Entity Behavior Analytics (UEBA) capability. As a Senior Manager within our corporate information security department, you will be leading a team that works with corporate information security teams and customers to ensure the threat detection services they need are provided in a timely manner that aligns with corporate policies and standards. This specific position will also be responsible for the on-boarding and support of a managed service provider, championing the increased use of automation, and mentoring and guiding existing staff career development and transition.
Responsibilities:
• Lead a global team of individual contributors aligned to the UEBA capability. Responsible for managing and developing a team of employees – including hiring, training, development, performance management, administration, and workforce planning.
• Build and maintain relationships with other IT, network, and security leaders to develop a clear understanding of business needs; respond with agility to changing business priorities. Key stakeholders include Insider Threat Operations, Threat Management Center, BISOs, Cybersecurity Data Management and Protection, and Verizon’s Product Security leadership.
• Create vision and strategy, and provide thought leadership for deployment, maintenance, and extension of the UEBA platform.
• Analyze business requirements for complex projects and distill them into actionable projects and programs.
• Prioritize new data sources and integrations, and drive platform maturity to detect and respond to suspicious or risky activity.
• Ensure that desired results are achieved within defined SLAs. Understand and remediate consequences of work that has not been executed as expected.
• Run cyber like a business, define and provide operational, technical, and management metrics to executive leadership.
• Implement a balance of processes to support demand intake and foster continuous improvement. Maintain the single front door process to provide a consistent experience for engagement of Verizon internal consumers and consistent, repeatable results consistent with Verizon policy.
• Provide recommendations around financial planning and investments required to grow the platform.
• Develop proof-of-concepts of new technology integrations, lead evaluations of state of the art in large-scale data processing and distributed computing.
• Manage and direct third-party service providers acting on behalf of Verizon – including measuring and tracking key performance indicators.
• Consciously create a workplace culture that is consistent with the overall organization and that emphasizes the identified mission, guiding principles, and values of CIS.
• Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills to explain and document ideas. Communicating with and leading a geographically diverse workforce through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, and appropriate email, instant messaging, and regular interpersonal communications.
Where you’ll be working:
This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.
What we’re looking for...
You'll need to have:
• Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of relevant work experience.
• Six or more years of experience in information security or information technology.
• Experience leading geographically diverse teams.
• Experience with a UEBA or SIEM platform.
• Willingness to travel.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
• A degree in information technology or cyber security.
• Ability to be a strategic people leader and proven capability to energize the appropriate teams in the organization; proven leadership in advanced information systems combined with broad business acumen.

• Experience leading large enterprise implementations.
• Prior experience with managing preventative and detective security controls or experience in security operations.
• Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the capability to communicate information security and risk-related concepts to technical and non-technical audiences at various hierarchical levels, ranging from board members to technical specialists.
• Strong organization and time management skills working in a rapid-paced environment.
• Ability to prioritize tasks independently, according to business priority.
• Experience in public speaking and addressing executive leadership.
• Previous experience managing third-party vendors, contractors, or a managed service provider.
• Demonstrated ability to be a critical thinker with strong problem-solving skills; demonstrated excellent analytical skills, the ability to manage multiple projects under strict timelines, as well as the ability to work well and thrive in a demanding, dynamic environment and meet overall objectives.
• Knowledge of common information security management frameworks, such as ISO/IEC 27001, ITIL, COBIT as well as those from NIST, including 800-53 and Cybersecurity Framework.
• Professional security certifications such as CISSP, CEH, CISM, CISA, OCSP, or other related or willingness to obtain within 12 months of hire.
