Trauma Injury Prevention & Outreach Coordinator (RN Required), Full-Time Days, Piedmont Athens
JOB PURPOSE:
The Trauma Injury Prevention and Outreach Coordinator is a Registered Nurse who develops and maintains the trauma injury prevention and outreach programs as set forth by the guidelines established by the American College of Surgeons Trauma Center Verification Program and state designated trauma program. This position utilizes the trauma registry in the development of outreach and education programs for the community and professionally within local Piedmont Hospitals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Works collaboratively with the Trauma Team to ensure coverage for time sensitive responsibilities/duties.
• Serves as a resource to patients and families as needed to ensure optimal trauma care provision to our patients.
• Serves as a liaison to clinical areas responsible for the care of the trauma patient.
• Participates in regional trauma education and outreach efforts.
• Develops educational programs with other members of the Trauma Service for hospital staff and regional affiliates.
• Serves as the Course Director for certification classes as directed by the Trauma Manager.
• Participates in other professional education courses in trauma and critical care that may be conducted or sponsored by the hospital.
• Collaborates with advanced practice nurses and department specific educators to identify and mitigate education deficits related to the care of the injured patient.
• Collaborates with Region EMS in supporting pre-hospital providers related to the pre-hospital care of the injured patient.
• Collaborates with Region RTAC to support injury prevention and education as needed.
• Utilizes the Trauma Registry as a source for identifying injury prevention opportunities in population, mechanism of injury, location of injury and mitigation severity of injury and mortality.
• Participates in the data validation process for the Trauma Registry.
• Coordinates program initiatives in public education and injury prevention efforts.
• Works collaboratively with Community Outreach and Marketing to facilitate public programs.
• Participates on the Georgia Committee for Trauma Excellence Injury Prevention Subcommittee and related injury prevention initiatives to support regional and state trauma system development.
• Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports related to outreach/education events.
• Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports related to injury prevention events and effectiveness.
• Works collaboratively with injury prevention experts and resources in the community to track partnerships with other community organizations.
• Maintains highest level of trauma registry validity to assure accurate program profiling, TQIP, state and internal data reports.
• Participates in regional, state and national conferences as required or requested by the Trauma Manager.
• Attends all Trauma Department meetings as requested.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
• Comprehensive knowledge of professional standards of trauma.
• Knowledge of accreditation and regulatory agencies' standards and guidelines.
• Demonstrate by previous experience and accomplishment an ability to apply a broad knowledge base to complex clinical problem solving within a health care system.
• Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and make recommendations.
• Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication along with problem solving and team facilitation skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook), Web-based learning / instruction, and Public Speaking.
• Familiarity with core concepts of injury/trauma prevention, emergency care and community health education.
• Ability to plan, develop and coordinate education and injury prevention activities and programs.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s Degree in, Nursing
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Minimum of two years of experience in health education and/or in Emergency/Critical Care of the Trauma patient required.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNLC Multistate License.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support Certification(BLS) Required
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Required
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Required
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) - obtain within 6 months of hire
Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) obtain within 6 months of hire
Advance Trauma Care Nursing (ATCN) within 18 months of hire.
