You will also support our Underground Storage Tank Inspection Program and perform code enforcement duties, as needed. This is a dynamic position focused on quality customer service and teamwork.
Job Description:
Investigates citizen concerns and other reports of pollution related to air and water quality. Conducts stormwater inspections at industrial facilities to determine compliance with County and NPDES Stormwater regulations.
A. Conducts field investigations to document site conditions and potential violations. Inspection activities may include field testing and associated data analysis to determine compliance with standards. Prepares reports on investigative findings. Performs data input and management of large data sets.  Manages associated enforcement activities. This position interacts extensively with homeowners, business owners, governmental agencies, and internal staff to resolve pollution concerns through education, cooperation, and enforcement.
B. Acts as code enforcement official in bringing cases before the Special Magistrate and testifies, as necessary, in other hearings or court proceedings.
C. Maintains HAZWOPER certification and FDEP Qualified Stormwater Management Inspector certification.
D. Maintains various field equipment to ensure they are calibrated correctly and in good working condition.
Supports the Underground Storage Tank program. Independently schedules and performs inspections of petroleum storage facilities for compliance with State regulations; analyzes records and equipment test results; performs data entry into the State database system; advises the Storage Tank Program Coordinator on non-compliance issues. This position interacts extensively with business owners, governmental agencies, and internal staff to resolve violations.
Promotes community environmental stewardship through public outreach and helps develop educational materials related to reducing pollution. Assists with the Rain Barrel Program during scheduled distribution events at various locations throughout the County.
Assists with records requests. Completes file reviews and supplies relevant data of pollution incidents for Public Records Requests.
About You
Minimum Qualifications:  A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in one of the biological or physical sciences, Environmental Engineering or a related field and two (2) years professional experience. A Master's Degree may substitute for one-year of professional experience.  Progressively responsible professional experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college degree.
Job Competencies:  Proficient in Microsoft Office software and the ability to become proficient in LIMS, SharePoint, GIS, KRONOS, and other software that the County uses. Florida Association of Code Enforcement certification.  Ability to operate and maintain general office equipment as well as field testing and sampling equipment for water, soil, and sediment. Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening:  This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
