About Our Job
Supervises and oversees Traffic Operations staff, daily activities and functions of assigned work crews for both routine and emergency maintenance; arranges necessary equipment, tools and assistance from others as needed; reviews and monitors safety of workers and equipment; ensures correct time and materials are charged for work performed; interfaces with departments, divisions, and internal staff on issues related to budgeting, staffing, discipline of employees, training/development, scheduling and other activities involving discretion and judgment.
Job Description:
Organizes/coordinates/schedules daily activities and functions of assigned work crews.
Maintains, reviews and summarizes daily activity logs.
Reviews and monitors safety equipment, instructs crews in proper work methods and correct safety procedures; corrects safety procedures, and completes necessary forms for accidents and incidents.
Assigns work crews to emergency outages and emergency operations.
Trains and develops staff on utilization of equipment and operations.
Utilizes computerized programs for scheduling and time management.
Interfaces with other departments, divisions, and municipal officials.
Ensures compliance with county, state and OSHA regulations; coordinates use of external resources/vendors.
Assists with monitoring, analyzing/assessing effectiveness and efficiency of all aspects of work performed.
Assists with establishing workload priorities to meet deadlines.
Coordinates and ensures appropriate supply of work materials; tracks and maintains store inventories.
Participates in hiring of staff, performance reviews and disciplinary actions.
Participates in staffing, budget preparation, and business planning efforts.
Prepares correspondence as necessary.
Gathers all corrective actions & creates reports for Risk Management for asset reimbursement for accidents.
Responds to requests for Road Markings from internal and external staff.
Prepares Road Marking 5-year plan for future initiatives; secures funding for the Road Marking Program.
Serves as Administrative Agent for the Road Marking Contract.
Responds to request for Sign installation, relocation, repair or removal.
Serves as Administrative Agent for the Sign Material Contract.
Reviews Engineering and Land Development plans for proposed, signs, and striping; submits comments as necessary.
Prepares contract documents to obtain quotes from vendors to install, signs, striping or other traffic related items.
Inspects and approves payment invoices for contractor performed work.
Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
About You
Minimum Qualifications:
A High School Diploma and four (4) years related experience
Two (2) years of supervisory experience (in any field) is also required.
Possess a valid state driver's license.
Must obtain a Fork-Lift Certification within one -year of employment (and maintain) in order to remain in job classification.
Must obtain the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Advanced Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) within two (2) years of employment (and maintain) in order to remain in job classification.
Must obtain the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level II within two (2) years of employment (and maintain) in order to remain in job classification.
Associate Degree may be required with two (2) years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Trade school diploma related to Traffic Engineering and Operations preferred.
