Metallurgist needed to do chemical analysis of products, mechanical testing, and failure analysis within ASTM guidelines. Will assist the QA Manager with communications to customer and suppliers. Participate in the company’s Continuous Improvement efforts. This client requires that you must be a US citizen. This job is in the Cleveland, Ohio area.
Audit manufacturing processes. Use ISO 9002 methods to increase efficiency, quality and continuous improvement. Prepare and present training in metallurgy. Manage failure analysis process, including the identification and correction of problems. Conduct process check, sign certifications, ensure that tests are done to customers’ specifications.
Monitor new products and processes, with the goal of reducing costs, increasing efficiency, and increasing quality of company products. Review test reports to determine if physical characteristics of sample specimens meet metallurgical specifications, quality control standards, and customer performance requirements.
Investigate causes of defects. Advise production supervisors of processing defects. Disposition substandard material. Advise metallurgical personnel on problems in quality, and on testing techniques. Assist manufacturing engineering in specification interpretation on new orders. Develop procedures and document work instructions for lab operators. When needed, perform lab technician duties.
BS in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, or Materials Science minimum. Advanced degree preferred.
5-7 years’ experience working in a metals lab as a metallurgist.
Should have experience working in a foundry.
Must be able to run all lab equipment and do a variety of metals tests.
