BluePearl Veterinary Partners is currently experiencing extreme growth. We are very excited to add a Safety Security Specialist to our team at our support center in Tampa, FL.
Description
As the Workplace Safety Manager you will ensure the safety and security of BluePearl’s Associates and facilities. You will eliminate or mitigate safety and security risks throughout BluePearl’s network of veterinary hospitals. You will be responsible for the performance of duties that ensure compliance with BluePearl and regulatory requirements. The incumbent must have an effective partnership and collaboration with hospital and Operations leadership. This role leads the Safety and Security team to conduct and resolve investigations of safety and security incidents and implement policy/process improvements.
As the Workplace Safety Manager, you will:
• Promote a strong culture of safety and security across the organization by increasing the awareness of risks/losses and the preventive actions each Associate is responsible for (i.e., presenting in field/hospital leadership meetings, Associate training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of personal protective equipment).
• Interview, hire, train, and evaluate Associates belonging to the Safety and Security function. Lead, mentor, and provide direction to team members.
• Present to BluePearl’s Senior Leadership Team on the effectiveness of the Safety and Security function including the safety of our Associates and the condition of our hospitals.
• Conduct regular Safety and Security assessments of BluePearl’s hospitals to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all federal, state and local safety, environmental and controlled substance regulations.
• Develop and maintain programs and processes that provide a healthy and safe working environment for Associates.
• Partner with field leadership to mitigate the risk to Associates’ safety and security in the event of a potential or imminent threat. Recommend changes and educate Associates on preventable injuries and illnesses through the proper use of controls and personal protective equipment. Provide feedback and coaching as necessary when safety procedures or behaviors are not followed.
• Conduct internal loss interviews, partnering with Associate Relations, including the administration of corrective actions.
• Provide technical advice and guidance on how to handle occupational health-related problems and recommend process changes and product safety features that will reduce Associates’ exposure to chemical, physical, radiological materials and biological work hazards.
• Request or collect samples (i.e., air, noise, or radiation) to verify compliance with occupational health and safety regulations when necessary.
• Investigate accidents to identify their root cause and determine how they might be prevented.
• Ensure maintenance of hospital Safety and Security records to ensure adherence to BluePearl policies and/or regulatory requirements.  Includes, but not limited to, OSHA 300 log, incident records, safety metrics, inspections, etc.
• Ensure submission of OSHA Serious Event Reporting.
• Assist in reviewing construction plans and specifications to determine whether all safety and security requirements have been met.
• Assist in the annual review of BluePearl’s safety programs to determine their effectiveness.
• Aid in developing strategies for reducing occupational injuries and illnesses, and improvement of safety programs.
• Conduct controlled substance loss investigations, ensure compliance with BluePearl policies, federal and state controlled substances regulations.
• Provide DEA Form 106 submission guidance to hospital DEA registrant in the event of a controlled substance theft or loss.
• Partner with the Learning and Training team to maintain and update safety and security training materials and tools when necessary.
• Other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Experience in veterinary industry strongly preferred or experience in human health.
• Thorough understanding of corporate and legislative safety and security requirements. Professional certification preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Ability to apply good judgment when responding to officials and investigating safety issues.
• Self-motivated with the ability to take the initiative.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ability to partner with others to achieve results.
• Ability to present solutions effectively and influence decisions at all levels of the organization.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent organization and time management skills.
