Utilizing the information provided, the incumbent will apply performance improvement methodology to guide the surgical areas and clinics in improving patient care and outcomes. # Position Highlights: SME in data analysis, performance improvement#and CMS standards, including National Patient Safety Goals Expertise in surgical chart review, abstractions, and data analysis using National Surgical Quality Improvement Program registry and Society of Thoracic Surgeons registry (Cerner experience preferred) Leads surgical performance improvement teams to improve both performance and outcome metrics directly related to quality of care, patient safety, and outcomes # The Ideal Candidate: Demonstrates a high degree of technical competence, intrapersonal skills, attention to detail, independent critical thinking, and decision making; SME in Quality, Regulatory, Patient Safety, and National Surgical Registries#with Six Sigma Green Belt # Responsibilities:# Develop and maintain an expertise in the field of surgical chart review, abstractions, and data analysis utilizing National Surgical Quality Improvement Program registry and Society of Thoracic Surgeons registry. Review, analyze, and abstract charts, prepare data for committee review, disseminate to appropriate committee, record per regulatory guidelines, track per medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations. Lead surgical performance improvement teams, in alignment with surgical faculty, clinic staff, and surgical services leadership to improve both performance and outcome metrics directly related to quality of care, patient safety, and outcomes utilizing best quality practice methodology Represent Quality # Patient Safety on multiple PI initiatives, both internal and external to improve the care and safety of the surgical patient at Moffitt. Collaborate with Nursing Quality, Quality # Patient Safety Specialists, Department Chairs and Safety Committees to identify trends in surgical patients and opportunities for improvement. Maintain active involvement in professional societies Help to monitor literature, societies, and other sources to identify best practices and measurement Integrate indicators and initiatives into the Performance Improvement plan and Safety Initiatives Work with Risk Management, OR, Case Management and others to identify outlying cases Prepare materials for peer review as appropriate Educate physicians and leadership as to use of performance improvement data in a Fair and Just Culture Assist in continuous readiness for TJC, CMS and all other regulatory agencies Foster communication between the Medical Staff and other performance improvement activities Monitor changes in and become an expert resource for the#ASCO and STS Monitor for compliance with NPSG#s and PSI related to surgery Monitor for compliance with STS and NSQIP requirements and submission deadlines # Credentials and Qualifications: Bachelor#s Degree in Nursing or related field required; Master#s Degree preferred; (note: Associate#s in Nursing will be accepted with signed agreement to obtain BSN within 3 years from date of hire) RN license required Minimum of five (5) years# Registered Nurse clinical experience required Minimum of five (5) years# Surgical experience required Process Improvement Methodology Experience - Willingness to achieve Lean/ Six Sigma Yellow Belt within 1 year of hire if not already achieved and Lean/Six Sigma Green belt within 2 years. Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) preferred Clinical Nurse Specialist/Clinical Nurse Leader preferred #
