Full Job Description Tug Boat Captain
SUMMARY
Works aboard watercraft, such as tugboats, dredges, barges, and scows.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS CLASS A
Have a minimum 50 ton license
Know how to read and understand radar and have a radar endorsement
Maintain CPR card and qualification
Able to repair small problems on tugs (fuel filters, oil filters, minor repairs, etc.)
Knowledge of safety procedures and good safety attitude
Know ISR paperwork, (time sheets, equipment report, tax forms, delivery forms)
Good attendance
Knowledge of rules and regulations for Port of Tampa and radio frequencies
Maintains good housekeeping of tugboat, both inside and out
CLASS AA
Same as CLASS A plus the following
Have FCC radio operators license
Knowledge of barge designations, (ie WB-15, etc)
Working towards securing a towing endorsement
Monitor radios
Knowledge of crane hand signals
Able to go alongside of vessels underway to put up lines
CLASS AAA
Same as CLASS AA plus the following:
Able to work with little or no supervision
Has towing endorsement
Able to train less experienced tug boat Captains
Able to supervise a crew
Able to work offline and hip
Knowledge of all Port of Tampa locations

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma and 50-Ton Masters License with Radar Endorsement and Current CPR

• Heavy Lifting, pulling, pushing, up to or over 25 pounds or moving, assisting and/or lifting items or awkward weights. Pulling and tying mooring lines and ropes. Required daily on a moderate basis (36% to 70% if each shift.)
• Climbing ladders and high places, Bending/Stooping, Reaching Above/Below the Waist.
Lifting, Walking, Standing, Crawling, Kneeling, Sitting, Pushing/Pulling Movements, Fine
Hand and Finger Movements.
• The following are necessary to do this position's tasks: Seeing, Hearing, Talking.
