What you get to do:
• Provide outstanding animal care of a variety of species including macaws, cockatoos, lorikeets, waterfowl, turtles, kangaroos, and wallabies
• Provide for animals’ best welfare with attention to animal behavior, nutrition, and habitat maintenance
• Daily cleaning and maintenance of animal habitats including two multispecies aviaries, a flamingo flock, and a large kangaroo and wallaby display.
• Provide dynamic public presentations (educational programming, camps, special events, media, and in-park guest interpretation) while utilizing animal ambassadors
• Husbandry training for animal management program procedures and working side by side with the staff vet team
• Daily record keeping including ability to learn our new electronic record keeping program (TRACKS)
• Perform other duties as assigned according to business need
What it takes to succeed:
• A positive, team-minded attitude and desire to give/receive constructive criticism
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal) allowing for efficient communication with teammates and management
• Experience handling and caring for birds and/or macropods preferred
• Strong public speaking skills
• A strong work ethic with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities appropriately and apply creative problem-solving skills when required
• The flexibility required to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
• The desire to promote conservation messages to a varied audience
• Experience using power tools and lawn equipment preferred
• Experience building and upkeep of animal displays and habitats preferred
What else is important:
• 18 years of age
• College degree in Biology, Zoology, Behavior Analysis, Psychology, or related field preferred but not required.
• Previous experience and skill in operant conditioning animal training preferred
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving guidelines required.
• Able to work at least 28 hours a week and must be available to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional overnight shifts
• Ability to work in a physically demanding work environment in a variety of outdoor weather conditions (i.e. extreme heat, cold, rain).
• Able to stand, walk, lift, bend, and squat on a continual basis in order to accomplish tasks.
• Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50lbs repeatedly on a frequent basis.
