Job Description
Ryan Companies US, Inc. has an immediate career opportunity for a Director of Construction to join our team in our Multifamily Sector!
Some things you can expect to do:
General
Implements corporate goals and initiatives
Manages and coordinates all aspects of the Ryan business model, including development, capital markets, design and engineering, and preconstruction
Supports innovation within Ryan and acts as an ambassador to peers in other regions and divisions
Coordinates with market sector leads to balance workload, responsibility and integration between sector and regional talent
Aligns Regional, Divisional and Market Sector priorities with peers to ensure high levels of execution, accountability and consistency
Understands local and sector-based construction market and effectively negotiates construction contracts to Ryan's best business and legal interest
Client Centricity
Develops contacts and quickly builds relationships with potential clients or stakeholders (external developers, operators, capital partners)
Leads relationship-building and management of customers (internal/external development teams, operating partners, capital partners)
Makes effective and convincing formal sales presentations to customers
Oversees the negotiation of business and legal provisions of contracts (subcontractor, design consultant, interim owner, construction owner, joint venture)
Execution
Continually shares lessons learned amongst project teams
Partners with regional and sector leadership to assign staff and develop future project teams
Functions as primary recruiter for sector staff
Leads integrated teams with utilizing sector standards and best practices
Supports Project Executives with prioritizing initiatives and project-specific work
Continually focuses on process improvement and risk mitigation

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES - REQUIRED OR PREFERRED - TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
Effective and convincing presentation skills
Advanced knowledge of construction means and methods, building types, estimating, scheduling, cost control and material pricing, aligned with sector
Effectively prioritizes and balances big picture and immediate responsibilities
Ability to listen effectively, value the opinions of others and acknowledge contributions of others
Ability to communicate and work well with others at all levels
Ability to understand project and team issues early
Ability to effectively manage responsibilities and workload across multiple teams
Ability to effectively negotiate the business and legal provisions of construction contracts
Resolves issues promptly for a 'win-win' solution
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Minimum 15 years successful project management or field management with at least 5 years handling contract values from $10 million to $100 million+
Proven ability to manage PM teams successfully and profitably
Preferred four-year college degree in construction management, construction engineering or applicable engineering degree
