Role:
The Planned Giving Manager has primary oversight responsibility for cultivating and managing gifts of estates, trusts, and other financial vehicles reflecting financial planning and deferred giving opportunities. Responsible for developing and implementing the Foundation's strategy by identifying and leveraging estate and planned giving opportunities that exist throughout the Foundation's operating territory. Creates and executes plans for securing deferred gifts from donors and prospects.
Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Business or Management preferred or a combination of equivalent education and experience • Minimum of two (2) years of successful relevant professional experience required; preferably in a nonprofit development and fundraising office • An understanding of current laws regarding taxability of donations, familiarity with deferred giving strategies, and knowledge of a diverse array of financial instruments • Experience using planned giving or fundraising software used by nonprofits • Demonstrated record of success in a related career field such as law, accounting, or financial planning preferred • Knowledge of estate planning, including wills, trusts and estate and gift tax laws • Working knowledge of the legal recordkeeping requirements for fundraising and documenting donations • Exceptional interpersonal and communication (written, verbal, persuasion, and presentation) skills • Skilled in proofreading and editing; ability to write correspondence, reports, proposals and marketing materials • Ability to perform research and analysis; computer literacy, particularly in word processing, using Internet resources, and using databases • Excellent organizational skills, particularly in planning, managing deadlines, and evaluating progress; attention to detail and follow-through • Familiarity with deferred giving strategies and knowledge of a diverse array of financial instruments • Ability to attend evening and/or weekend activities, meetings, events, seminars and workshops, etc. • Intermittent Driver - Valid driver's license and automobile insurance per Company policy Competencies: • Satisfactorily complete competency requirements for this position. Job Responsibilities: • Assists the Foundation to meet fundraising goals by having a thorough understanding of current capital projects, needs for endowments, giving programs, strategic initiatives availability, and the advantages of membership in various Foundation gift recognition clubs. • Creates positive donor and industry professional relations by assuming primary responsibility for providing executional support and options regarding planned and deferred gifts. Maintains relationships with existing donors and estate planning professionals through regular contact, the provision of annual reports and account statements, and donor recognition events. • Plans, develops, and executes policies and programs promoting goodwill and fostering relationships with community and corporate leaders. Supports the overall long-term financial strength and support of the Foundation by educating donors and prospective donors about a variety of gift possibilities, particularly deferred and planned gifts. • Enhances donor relations by representing the Foundation at functions and community meetings, as well as working with donors and potential donors. • Prepares for professional and donor meetings by establishing and maintaining professional competencies in the field of development work through professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, attending training, and maintaining appropriate professional memberships in organizations. • Manages a rated prospect list including individuals and professional agencies as part of the moves management system. • Communicates the status of current fundraising activities to both the general public and senior administrators and stimulates interest in gift giving by preparing written materials including proposals, contact reports, brochures, gift acknowledgments, articles, administrative reports, as well as contributing articles to the Foundation newsletter and the Chapters Health Annual Report. • Serves as fundraising liaison to all affiliate area teams and prepares written materials, including having primary responsibility for training and support for other staff members working with donors on deferred and planned gifts such as trusts, charitable annuities, life insurance, wills, and bequests. • Provides support to the Vice President of Development and Executive Director Foundation by producing planned giving seminars emphasizing deferred gifts to members of the professional community, individuals, staff, and volunteers. • Performs other duties as assigned.
