Hiring Salary/Salary Range: $16.52 - $19.05 per hour
Job Summary:
Applicant will be assigned to work in the aging and neurodegenerative disease research lab of Dr. Paula Bickford.
This position in Dr. Bickford’s research lab will focus on evaluating the therapeutic potential of various approaches to traumatic brain injuries and neurodegenerative diseases.
DUTIES :
• Performs standard laboratory procedures such as maintaining cell cultures requiring the use of sterile technique, radioisotope labeling, preparing slides using staining techniques, and performing assays for protein, RNA, DNA, or other cellular components.
• Cares for laboratory animals. Performs standardized experimental protocols. May prepare animals for surgery, and care for animals after surgery.
• Orders laboratory equipment, calibrates instruments, and prepares laboratory equipment for use.
• Keeps records of the conduct and outcome of laboratory analyses. May enter data into a database.
• Prepares graphs, graphs, charts and tables from experimental results for inclusion in presentations and publications.
Minimum Qualifications:
• This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a natural, physical or medical science.
• Progressively responsible experience involving scientific laboratory or field work may be substituted for the required college education on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity and experience with immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, unbiased stereology for quantifying immunohistochemical assays, real-time qPCR, among others techniques.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
• Necessary skills include expertise in the use of behavioral testing of animals.
• Knowledge of small rodent surgeries for Parkinson’s disease Alzheimer’s disease and TBI.
