Summary
Multi-task position responsible for preparation/review of state and local taxes; sales/use taxes; gross receipts taxes; tangible/intangible/real property taxes; VAT Taxes and other local returns; import/export duties; review and coordination of benefit plan returns; filing annual registration reports; research of state tax issues including but not limited to income tax, sales/use tax; property tax; franchise tax; payroll taxes and other taxes or duties applicable in the jurisdiction. Responsible for obtaining information for state and local (non-income) tax planning.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Performs detailed account analysis and compilation of work-paper documentation in support of all state and local (non-Income) tax filings. Computes and prepares filings; records State and Local (non-income) taxes owed according to prescribed rates, laws, and regulations
• Completes and submits all necessary forms for State and Local (non-income) for tax refunds
• Ensures that organization complies with periodic tax payments, information reporting, and other taxing authority requirements
• Supports Corporate payroll with registrations for payroll in new states
• Performs nexus study for new States and Local jurisdictions
• Periodically reviews new contracts to confirm compliance with all state and local jurisdiction (non-income) tax registration, filings, and notices
• Coordinates registration in new jurisdictions and filing of annual reports, coordinates with Cogency for new state representation
• Coordinates and supports Company applications/enrollments for various state and local tax credits, including Federal and State R&D tax credits, incentive tax credits and employment tax credits
• Ensures that all reporting and filings in support of earned tax credits are timely computed, prepared, filed and recorded
• Responds and resolves all state and local (non-income) tax notices and liens
• Maintains and updates tax calendar
• Organizes and maintains tax records and conducts tax studies and special projects
• Coordinates and reviews preparation of the Employee Benefit Plan 5500's and associated audits
• Document tax procedures and improve processes
Qualifications & Education Requirements
• Bachelor of Arts or Science in Accounting
• Minimum 4 years of experience in accounting including 2 years of experience in taxation of US corporations
• Experience in state and local non-income tax, sales/use tax, local taxes
• Tax accounting skills
• Analytical skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
• Teamwork oriented
• Ability to work with minimum supervision and within schedule
• Results-oriented with attention to detail
Language Skills
• Written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to communicate to all levels of the organization
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence
Mathematical Skills
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
• Knowledge of General Accounting Principles
Reasoning Ability
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
Preferred Skills
• CPA
• State and local tax experience
• Tax Credit experience
Security Responsibilities
Must comply with all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures. Personally responsible for marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.
• Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance
Work Environment
This job operates in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
