ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Healthcare Risk Manager is an administrative professional responsible for the management of a comprehensive health and safety risk management program for clinical operations. The Risk Manager will identify and manage potential risks and liabilities within the organization and develop appropriate procedures and processes to help mitigate those risks.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Review reports of patient safety events via the RL Reporting System and evaluate them to identify those that have actual or potential patient injury/harm and follow up as necessary. Ensure the thorough review of these events via root cause analysis, tracking of trends and implementation of data driven follow up actions/process improvement to improve patient safety. In collaboration with nursing, physicians, managers and other members of the healthcare team interact with patients and families to investigate complaints and grievances pertaining to care, injury and other concerns. Guide and assist staff to ensure that adequate response times and appropriate service recovery occurs. Identify potential or actual claims that require reporting to the USF Health Self Insurance Program. Assist in ensuring that safety events are properly reported to regulatory agencies as required.
• Round on clinic units and departments on Patient Safety and Risk Management strategies to mitigate loss and improve reporting in a just culture. Assess current safety environment and practices and provide knowledgeable and experienced professional consultation, education and mentorship to staff to support a culture/environment of patient safety.
• Collect, analyze and share RL Solutions data. Prepare graphs, reports and data to support department SMART goals and short and long term strategic plans. Track and analyze data, provide feedback, trending and problem solving. Prepare and present data as needed.
• Actively participate in committees and department meetings. Work with hospital partners in a collaborative way to implement systems to minimize adverse events.
• Assist/lead thorough and credible patient safety activities and ensure that in-depth analyses of sentinel events or near misses occurs with timely completion of follow up actions and deployment of plans for sustaining improvement promoting organizational learning. In collaboration with Clinical Operations staff, contribute to the development of an annual Patient Safety staff education plan.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
• This position requires a Bachelor's in Nursing or other allied health professional and five years of experience in a healthcare setting with experience implementing major performance improvement processes.
• Legal, Licensure, & USF Requirements:
Registered Nurse or other allied health professional Florida State license. Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management.
PREFERRED:
• Ability to provide in-depth reports to a variant of audiences in a succinct and timely manner.
• Strong writing, interpersonal communications and organizational skills is required.
• Experience with Epic, Cerner or other EHR software systems a plus.
• Experience with RL solutions patient safety event reporting system a plus.
Business Skill Requirements:
• Knowledge of statistical concepts, patient carte process, accreditation standards, CQI, TQM, NCQA, Patient Safety Activity, Failure Mode and Effect Analysis.
• Prior experience with computer software programs and data analytics required such as: Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; Visio; and other database programs.
Preferred Attributes:
• Licensed Health Care Risk Manager preferred or eligible within 12 months of hire.
• Nationally recognized quality related certifications (i.e., CPHQ) preferred.
