Your Specific Responsibilities:
The incumbent is responsible for coordination of all tasks related to the preparation of culture media and for assisting with testing performed in the Environmental Microbiology Section and in the Clinical Microbiology Section. All non-clinical duties are performed under general supervision and clinical testing duties are performed under direct supervision.
Perform quality control testing on all media, biochemicals and anti-sera used in the identification of all bacteria.
Keep temperature records and perform preventative maintenance for refrigerators, freezers, incubators and instruments used by the section.
Performs routine bacteriological analysis for drinking water by the membrane filtration, MMO/MUG, most probable number, or heterotrophic plate count methods. Performs routine bacteriological analysis for recreational water by the membrane filtration or Most Probable Number methods. Performs dilutions and pipetting for analysis and complete confirmatory testing as required.  Receives and accessions routine surface water samples and recreational water samples. Collect payments from customers and prepare receipts or invoices. Provides information on collection/transport of samples and report results to customers in a professional manner.
Sorts and accessions specimens received in the clinical microbiology department. Logs specimens and enters results into LabWare LIMS.  Documents specimens received without Electronic Lab Orders (ELOs) or paper requisitions for follow-up by the administration office.
Performs routine bacteriological analysis of patient specimens for pathogenic bacteria and miscellaneous bacterial cultures.
Performs processing and microscopic analysis of patient stool specimens for ova and parasites.
Performs related work as required, including, but not limited to, maintaining all materials and equipment for testing, assure proper sterilization of glassware and equipment, maintain and advise relative to section supply needs and assist in other sections as directed.
Perform proficiency testing on specimens provided by CAP, WatR™ and CDC.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the basic concepts and principles of the sciences.
Knowledge of the procedures, equipment and materials used in laboratory testing and analysis.
Knowledge of basic math.
Skill in the use of laboratory equipment and materials.
Ability to understand and follow technical instructions.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Qualifications:
Minimum:  BS in biomedical sciences and or biological sciences
Preferred: 1 Year Experience
