Full Job Description SUMMARY
Staff attorney working remotely in Florida. Staff attorney will provide legal representation of Acceptance Insurance on first party claims against the company with primary emphasis on Florida PIP and glass claims.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide practical, daily legal advice to support the PIP and glass claims litigation process.
• Represent Acceptance Insurance and attend trials, mediations, hearings, etc. involving defense of the company in the state and federal courts of Florida.
• Draft and respond to pleadings and discovery, and conduct depositions and/or EUOs to assist with coverage evaluations and to support litigation management and claims decision making.
• Partner with designated claims adjusters who will assign matters and work cooperatively with staff attorney to navigate litigation through trial or settlement.
• Provide accurate and timely reporting of relevant and material events regarding litigation handling and strategy for further handling.
• Advise claims personnel of significant legal decisions, trials or statutory changes which may impact PIP or glass claims handling or other first party litigation in Florida.
• Assist Claims adjusters with responding to CRNs involving claims asserted against the company.
• Participate in roundtables with claims personnel to evaluate coverage and file handling issues and make appropriate legal recommendations and assessments.
• Other duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Must be Florida licensed attorney in good standing with 3-5 years of first party PIP litigation experience.
• Must be competent & proficient in the use of Word, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint & Excel
• Draft/review substantive pleadings and motions during the PIP and glass litigation process
• Respond to all Florida PIP and glass litigation motions & discovery
• Attend/chair hearings, depositions, trials, mediations, meetings with clients, as well as negotiate settlements
• Communicate in a highly effective manner with team members and clients
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced evolving environment
• Self-starter
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Stellar academic credentials
• Strong legal research and excellent writing skills, as well as possess strong/persuasive oral advocacy
• Previous experience in PIP and/or Personal Injury litigation
• Ability to provide excellent customer service to our clients, with a client first mindset
• Highly organized, with clear and concise communication style
• Must be a self-starter and goal-oriented with a focus on long-term career goals
• Licensed member of the Florida Bar and in good standing
• Understanding of principles of insurance policy coverage analysis and interpretation
• Legal experience in multiple jurisdictions or prior claim adjusting experience is a plus
