POSITION SUMMARY
The Release Train Engineer (RTE) has primary purpose of supporting and coaching an Agile Release Train (ART) by steering it to success and navigating the complexity of delivering products in a cross-functional environment. The RTE helps resolve and escalate impediments, manages risk, helps assure value delivery, and drives program level continuous improvement. The RTE is accountable for the overall planning, coordination, execution, and delivery of value through the program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Execution: Assists the ART with communication and coordination with stakeholders and clients. Ensures that schedule and budget are met. Manages program level coordination with timelines, milestones and cadence of increments and releases. Understands, visualizes, and manages upstream/downstream dependencies and risks. Escalates and tracks impediments. Assists tracking the execution of features and capabilities. Ensures that change management protocols are followed for effective communication to the organization. Summarizes Team PI Objectives and publish for transparency. Encourages collaboration between teams and Solution Architects. Works with Product Management, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to ensure strategy and execution alignment.
• Facilitation: Coordinates preparation and execution of release planning for the Agile Release Train (ART), facilitating the PI Planning readiness by fostering continuous exploration.  Working with the ART teams to prioritize features for Program Increment (PI) planning. Provides clear direction, facilitation, and communication during quarterly planning meetings. Manages communication and coordination of changes to the ART's PI planning and the impacts of those changes. Facilitates periodic synchronization events, including Train Syncs and System Demos.
• Process Improvement: Drives delivery and continuous improvement by obtaining and using feedback and metrics. Assess the agility level of the ART. Provides leadership to project teams and act as consultant/coach to management for problem resolution. Continues developing the SAFe and Agile environment in IT by providing information and training to appropriate personnel. Supports the configuration of SAFe within IT to standardize practices and provides documentation for those practices. Foster Communities of Practice Built in Practices. Drives relentless improvement via Inspect and Adapt workshops.
• Coaching: Provides coaching to Scrum Masters and Product Owners in SAFe and other Agile practices. Manages and optimizes the flow of value through the Train. Works with LACE and APMO on program execution and operational excellence.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science or IT related field and three years of IT or Project Management experience OR seven years of IT or Project Management experience, or a combination of relevant experience and education.
