Job Summary In collaboration with a physician, diagnoses and treats certain acute or chronic health conditions in the adult intensive care unit. # Job Responsibilities Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination. Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic studies. Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers. Provides counseling and education to patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health and treatment options. Provides care in the context of promoting age and culture-appropriate informed choices, shared decision-making, and the right to self-determination. Provides accurate and timely documentation of assessment and patient care plan. Assists with admissions, consults, daily progress notes, and transfers from critical care unit. Coordinates care between medical specialties. Participates in morning rounding with intensivist and rounding with the multidisciplinary intensive care team. Assists intensivists with procedures which include central line and arterial line placement; additional procedures may include chest tube placement and thoracentesis with the pulmonologists/intensivists. Assists with basic ventilator management. Performs critical care ultrasound procedures. Qualifications Master#s degree or higher in Nursing required upon hire No experience required RN - Licensed as a Registered Nurse. Eligible to practice nursing in the State of Kentucky required upon hire AND APRN - Licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of Kentucky required upon hire AND APRN - National certification as Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner required from American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) required upon hire AND ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Healthcare Provider required upon hire AND BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required upon hire Skills and Attributes Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment. Works under minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
