The purpose of the Release Manager is to coordinate moves of new and / or modified application code , ensure functionality (including infrastructure) are validated and measured in the lower environments, ensure there are procedures in place for all required artifacts & documentation to be are created or updated. Be able to mentor / guide and/or provide direction on what deployment tools we should use to support processes. Release Manager would also be responsible for creating a roadmap for maturing our environments to determine next steps.
Responsibilities:
• Work to develop / implement Continuous Development, Continuous Integration
• Develop controls for the movement of programs and data from dev through QA
• Ownership of the release planning, release quality monitoring, preparation and deploying new code and services to production environments.
• Responsible for the plan, schedule, and the movement of releases to test and live environments.
• Responsible for Release Planning process to validate appropriate steps occurred in lower level life cycles prior to releasing to production.
• Organization of releases across teams and creation of release schedules.
• Visibility and communication of deployments across platforms.
• Ensuring supportability of the platform prior to production release.
• Responsible for Release Quality Monitoring:
• Deployment Dashboard management
• Communication of code deployments across teams
• Responsible for Release standards, guidelines, and processes:
• Responsible for data creation standards across agile teams – continuous updates / opportunities
• Develop and document controls for code promotion through lower life cycle environments. (appropriate to the platform)
• Improve the quality of software delivery with a focus on automation and standard tool use
• Understanding the lower life cycle environment differences from production and identifying controls to mitigate impacts of differences.
• Responsible for lower life cycle environments:
• Review lower level env INC and provide recommendations / compensating controls
• Responsible for owning Service Level Agreement (SLA) process for lower life cycle environments.
• Champion Lower Level Life Cycle Environment improvements.
• Early Life Support (Production) – Resolve early operational problems to ensure appropriate controls and remediation happens when incidents occur after releases
• Work with the security architect to make sure the applications are developed with a security practice in mind
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science preferred
• 5 - 7 related experience required
• Experience working in an Agile environment.
• Experience working with JIRA.
• Develops and reports on success factors and key process indicators
• Ensure adherence to the Release Management process
• Ensures that appropriate fit for purpose tools are properly integrated into the process
• Detailed experience with  software delivery methods.
• Detailed knowledge of process engineering development and roll out.
• Detailed knowledge of software and hardware development life cycles.
• Understands the Customers and the business services supported by IT.
• An understanding of NYLife Direct and the life insurance and annuities industry is a plus.
• Ability to establish sound working relationships with multiple teams and system owners
• Will work with vendors with either configuration tools or third party vendor who develop code.
• Must be able to coordinate, communicate and provide consensus building to develop solutions to the issues surrounding release management and application environments.
