Role Value Proposition:
MetLife is a leading financial services company offering its customers insurance, annuities, employee benefits and asset management options to aid in navigating life’s changes.  In this role, you will prepare pension benefit calculations for Pension Risk Transfer (PRT) Group Annuity contracts and assist with benefit quote and retirement package creation as well as special projects as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepares pension benefit calculations within specified timeframes by reading and interpreting contract language to find allowable options, eligibility requirements, and methods of calculation. Locate contract specified in request; determine personal information and exact defined benefit purchased for annuitant, and cross- check annuitant’s request against contract rules, eligibility requirements, and parameters to determine allowable options.  Using appropriate method (spreadsheet, manual, etc) perform pension benefit calculations.
• Researches contract listings and other records to determine exact defined benefit purchased for annuitant.
• Troubleshoots mainframe calculations, develop, maintain, and possibly repair calculation spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel, and utilize other miscellaneous calculation tools.
• Assists with the benefit quote and retirement package process
• On an ad-hoc, monthly or annual basis, utilize a standard rates program and generate needed rate tables for conversion options, lumps sums, or cash surrenders. Verify calculation methodology is clearly defined. Create and or review sample calculations.
• Resolve calculation issues and build effective relationships with internal partners.  Make necessary modifications.
• Create Benefit Quote and Retirement packages, work to enhance the relationship with the GSS and streamline the process/update procedures and quick reference guides (QRGs).  Utilize/enhance the process for the imaging system (BOSS) to facilitate this as needed.
• Complete special projects as assigned
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Required:
• High School Diploma; Bachelor’s degree in Math, statistics, Finance, or Actuarial Science a plus
• 2+ years of related work experience
• Able to read and interpret defined benefit defined benefit contract language
• Able to create, use, and repair calculation models in excel and perform calculations for Early retirement, late retirement, conversion of annuity form, and lump sums or cash settlements. Perform calculation for pre and post commencement deaths.
• Able to utilize Excel tools that may not be fully provisioned for eligibility rules, and review contract to ensure tool is used correctly.
• Excellent analytical and mathematical skill set
• Understanding of pension products and operations
• Working knowledge of actuarial concepts and calculation methods
• Familiar with all types of defined benefit plans
• Able to identify and meet customer needs
Preferred:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Proficient Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word, Excel and Access.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Effective time management skills.
• Able to work effectively independently and as a team player
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Superior problem solving and critical thinking skills.
