ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Students with Disabilities Services department is housed in the Division of Student Affairs. SDS employs 12 professional/administrative support staff service the needs of students with disabilities at USF. SDS coordinates the activities of students/staff employed as proctors, transcriptionists, and interpreters. SDS responds by offering accommodations to approximately 1000 registered students with disabilities and constituents, as well as provides information and advocacy for disabilities-related issues across campus.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Coordinator of SAS meets with students and coordinates academic accommodations. This position specializes in students with learning, psychological and physical disabilities. He/she serves as the key point of contact, for students to his/her case load. This position is part of a M-F work day on-call rotation. All SAS staff assist with accommodated exam administration which may include night or weekend hours at peak exam times.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides academic and supportive counseling and advisement to students with disabilities including physical, learning, psychological, medical or social disabilities. Coordinates academic accommodations for these students. Reviews documentation and conduct intake appointments. Contributes to student success with support services for these students.
• Consults with Faculty administrators and other USF professionals regarding student accommodations/exams. This will include correspondence, phone consultations, and in-person meetings presentations and committee work.
• Contributes to the success of SAS by promoting a culture of accessibility. This might include office programming, committee work and out-reach efforts.
• Contributes to the success of SAS by participating accommodated exam administration. Other duties as assigned including serving as USF essential personnel for emergencies and collaborating with SAS staff at USFSM and USFSP.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Each position assigned to this classification must require specific training at the Bachelor's degree or Master's degree level in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, or other field appropriate to the program content. Bachelor's degree candidates must have at least two years of applicable experience. The Master's degree may substitute for the required experience. Specific certifications or licensures may be required or preferred for certain program areas.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in psychology, rehabilitation, school counseling, social work, special education or related field. Two years related of experience preferred; experience working with students with documented disabilities especially those who have physical, psychological or medical disabilities; experience working in post secondary education; experience scheduling and administering accommodated exams, exposure to medical and other disability documentation utilized to determine eligibility and appropriate reasonable accommodations.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
Familiarity with disability law including 504, ADA and the ADA amendments. Ability to read and interpret LD testing and psychological assessments; familiarity with accessible software; Experience with accommodated exam administration.
