Title Executive Director
Posting Description Habitat for Humanity Owensboro-Daviess County, is a Christian-based non-profit affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International.  Habitat for Humanity is a housing ministry with a mission of creating a world where everyone has a decent place to live. We bring people together to build decent and affordable housing for all and support the global community’s commitment to housing as a basic human right. Our purpose and goal is to help individuals and families achieve strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. We believe that no one lives in dignity until everyone can live in dignity.
The Executive Director provides overall executive leadership in accordance with the direction, policies and objectives set forth by the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity of Owensboro – Daviess County. This role is the face and voice of Habitat for Humanity in our community and provides leadership to work in partnership with people and organizations in the area to build decent, affordable houses and make adequate housing a matter of conscience and action.   As Executive Director you’ll report directly to and partner with a board hungry to listen to your ideas, support our initiatives, and collaborate on strategies to achieve our shared vision.  You’ll be reviewed based on your merit, performance, professionalism, and positive impact on our organization.
Key Responsibilities:
* Leadership experience.
* Strong verbal, listening, and written communication skills.
* Ability to properly handle confidential data.
* Experience successfully creating and managing financial and strategic plans.
* Working knowledge of volunteerism and volunteer coordination.
* Sensitivity and respect for Habitat’s Christian mission and values.
* Familiarity with construction processes and procedures.
* Clear understanding of and commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity.
* Act as the chief administrator responsible for managing all aspects of operations.
* Manage the office by directing, training, supervising, and recognizing the paid and volunteer staff in the performance of assigned duties.
* Establish office procedures, guidelines and performance standards.
* Maintain a positive working environment that motivates and encourages staff to fully support the mission of the organization.
* Ensure the affiliate adheres to government regulations and Habitat for Humanity International policies.
* Must be a creative problem solver, innovative, and not satisfied with the status quo.
* Personable, patient and able to relate to; applicants/homeowners, their families and the variety of community and professional constituencies that are critical to Habitat’s success.
* Represents Habitat at monthly Chamber of Commerce meetings and other events
* Recognize need for change, initiate and manage required or advisable change.
* Technology “Savvy”, minimum of intermediate computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office –Excel, Word, PowerPoint and e-mail), knowledge of Internet/Intranet content, value of social media, basic software skills, etc.
* Able to repeatedly lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds to retrieve files and office supplies, participate in non-skilled aspects of builds/renovations.
Requirements :
* Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ experience preferred in not-for-profit management or other relevant management experience.
* Required to pass a background check and drug screen.
* Must be able to articulate the organization’s mission, values and goals.
* Must be organized, able to meet deadlines, and able to manage projects.
* Must possess the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
* Must be comfortable speaking in public to different and diverse audiences.
* Valid driver’s license and ability to be fully insured.
Financial Management:
* Responsible for the development and maintenance of sound financial practices.
* Work with financial staff and Board Treasurer to administer fiscal control and accountability for the organization.
* Interact with the finance committee to ensure completion of audits and other financial activities.
* Work with financial staff and Board Treasurer to develop and present annual budget to the Board of Directors for approval.
* Responsible for homeowner mortgage payment issues (delinquent payments, foreclosures, etc.).
* Authorize expenditures and checks within guidelines set by the Board of Directors.
* Advanced experience with fundraising processes, including grant proposal writing, donor solicitation, and event planning.
* Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its mission.
Fundraising:
* In cooperation with appropriate staff and the Board Fundraising Committee, develop and execute an annual fund development plan to meet or exceed annual fundraising goals.
* Create new and grow existing funding relationships from such resources as individuals, businesses, religious organizations, communities and foundations.
* Research, prepare and submit grant applications to national, state and local funding sources.  Submit required reports for grants received.
* Oversee branding and marketing strategies.  Utilize traditional and digital marketing and communications to support Habitat’s message and brand.
Board Support:
* Assist the board of directors in making fundamental decisions, preparing strategic plans and creating/maintaining policies.
* Oversees and reports on the organization’s results for Board of Directors.
* Prepares accurate and timely analyses that capture and communicate fundraising results, variances, and performance trends.
* Ensures that services and funding relationships are robust enough to meet or exceed strategic goals and objectives.
* Provide recommendations and proposals to the Board and its committees to ensure the best use of the all-volunteer Board members time.
* Assist the Board in the planning and implementation of long-range strategic planning.
* Serve as ex-officio member on all Board committee meetings.
Construction:
* Work closely with volunteer construction teams.
* Represent Habitat at house dedication ceremonies.
* Develop and maintain adequate supply chain and supplier relationships.
Community Relations and Resource Development:
* Serve as spokesperson for Habitat for Humanity Owensboro –Daviess County.
* Assist the committee chairs and provide communications flow among; committees, staff, volunteers, and the board as appropriate.
* Actively participate with appropriate community groups which share the goals of Habitat for Humanity.
* Ensure that appropriate acknowledgement and public recognition is provided to donors.
* Work with appropriate staff to develop and implement volunteer recruitment, retention and recognition plans.
* Ensure sufficient volunteers are secured for various events and activities.
* Establish and nurture good media relationships.
* Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with volunteers, home sponsors, partner families, community groups and other organizations.
