Summary
Under direction of the Facilities Manager, the Tower Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of technicians and performing all aspects of tower maintenance on Ascension Island Auxiliary Field (AAAF) located on Ascension Island in the South Atlantic.
Essential Duties Job Functions
• Supervises and directs work for Tower Maintenance and Corrosion Control.
• Responsible for performing corrective maintenance and corrosion control on, but not limited to, infrastructure, towers, fixed and semi-fixed antenna structures (i.e. communication, bore sight, lightning protection system, guyed or self-supporting, ground planes, mounting hardware, etc.)
• Replacement of tower lights (beacon/strobe), tower grounding, plumb and tensioning, troubleshoot and resolve tower maintenance/emergency issues.
• Oversees the work of employees and subcontractors who are performing service work.
• Able to create maintenance critical spare lists for all equipment
• Tracks work status and completion and coordinates pass down of work orders and preventative maintenance work.
• Makes recommendations as to the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion, or any other status change of personnel.
• Inspects and diagnoses problems to determine corrective actions.
• Conducts random inspections to review work while in progress.Ensures procedures are being followed while making certain highest level of quality standards are met.
• Reviews completed site work to verify compliance in accordance with applicable plans, procedures, and all governing codes.
• Interfaces with external and internal customers as required maximizing productivity and minimizing lost time.
• Maintains adequate levels of tools, equipment, and other maintenance supplies.
• Processes departmental timesheets and submits them in a timely manner for review by the CE Supervisor.
• Confers with and advised other management personnel regarding maintenance projects and priorities.
• Coordinates with other trade and warehouse personnel in the identification of proper and correct materials, parts assemblies, and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job/task.
• Keeps the Site Manager appraised of unique situations and problems encountered.
• Completes all PMs and repair projects on time and on budget.
• Ability to operate Government or Chugach-owned motor vehicles and/or other equipment.
• Assists and supports other departments, staff and/or trade groups as needed or directed.
• Adheres to the established Chugach safety and personnel policies and standard operating procedures.
• Performs other related work as required or assigned.
• Ability to comprehend and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, tower assembly drawings, Technical Orders (TO), etc.
• Must have a certified competent climber/rescue card by an accredited trainer.
• Extensive knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
• Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
• Proficient in all principals of rigging and knot tying.
• Competent in the operation and proper use of Winches, Capstan Hoist and JLG, bucket trucks and manlifts.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience
Mandatory
• High school graduate or equivalent GED.
• Five (5) years’ experience in tower maintenance.
• Medically and physically able to wear a respirator.
• Must obtain and maintain a valid Passport.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, and subsequent annual physical.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• The ability to obtain and maintain able DoD Secret Clearance and/or drug testing required on the contract.
Preferred
• Ten (10) to Fifteen (15) years’ experience in tower maintenance.
• Five (5) years’ experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
• Completion of OSHA 10 Hour and 30 Hour Course, CPR/First Aid Training.
• Understanding of Government contracts, correspondence, reports and records.
• Proficient in Gin Pole procedures.
• Computer knowledge, especially in Microsoft Office Suite.
