The Farm Research Agronomist will play an important role in executing applied field R&D, and the validation of commercial whole acre solutions, to support and drive our vision to “create a world-class Innovation Farm that showcase Nutrien’s capabilities and drives more rapid adoption of locally validated solutions.” Primary responsibilities include the implementation and maintenance of field trials including field preparation, planting, cultivation, tillage, pre-and-post applications, harvest, and data summary.
What you will do:
• Assist the Farm Manager to complete objectives while focusing on implementation of new ideas in agronomically sound ways
• Oversee and execute various field trials in corn, soybeans, and wheat
• Field preparation, planting, tillage, pre-and-post applications, harvest, and data summaries
• In-season data collection, including: soil and plant samples, storage, and shipment
• Maintain all equipment and facilities in accordance with applicable SOPs in a safe, clean, and organized manner
• Operate and maintain a wide range of research and commercial farm equipment
• Follow all safety programs, maintain training, and compliance with the Nutrien Innovative Farm
• May provide guidance and/or oversee seasonal farm staff
• Assist in preparing and conducting all plot tours/field days/training events
• Collaborate with strategic partners on trial design and implementation of testing and showcasing products and systems
• Assist at other Innovation Farm sites as needed
What you will bring:
• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in agronomy, plant pathology, entomology, weed science or related discipline; experience may be considered in lieu of education
• Advanced degree in agronomy, plant pathology, entomology, weed science or related discipline preferred
• 3+ years of related experience required, specifically with consultative agronomic experience and/or production farming or experimental management of row crops; 5 or more years preferred
• Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) certification and Current pesticide application license required
• Experience with field plot techniques, crop husbandry, and knowledge of modern agricultural practices
• Ability to operate commercial and research farm equipment
• Demonstrated ability to train others in new technologies and the use and application of crop inputs
• Active participation in one or more professional agricultural organizations preferred
• Strategic thinker with the ability to work cross functional with limited direction and make decisions independently that align with the broader Innovation Farm vision
