Job Summary:
This position manages the cardiac ultrasound functions in the department .(PRN)

Essential Functions:
• Administrative Functions
• Retrieves patients from the waiting room
• Escorts patient to check out at the conclusion of their study
• Thoroughly explains the test procedure to individual patients
• Secures the confidence of the patient by screening for relevant medical information
• Documents patient information in a concise, clear and thorough manner
• Manages and Maintains Medical Supplies and Equipment
• Orders and maintains inventory and medical supplies
• Maintains medical equipment; ensures all equipment is calibrated, cleaned, sterilized and operational
• Performs quality controls as recommended by the manufacturer and required by ICAEL
• Coordinates preventative maintenance service calls with vendor
• Maintains safety standards
• Ensures all OSHA policies and procedures are followed
• Operates the ultrasound equipment to perform the ordered study
• Positions patients accordingly on the exam table and varies position as necessary to adjust for patient’s medical condition and abilities
• Maneuvers the probes to obtain the necessary views and data
• Produces images on the equipment for physician interpretation
• Notifies the physician immediately of abnormal studies
• Works closely with physicians to assess studies
• Ensures all studies are presented and interpreted by the cardiologist
• Maintains records of studies performed
• Evaluates echocardiography and carotid studies (s)he performed
• Reviews the studies and documents the information and measurements prior to the physician’s interpretation
• Assesses the quality of images and reports deficiencies appropriately
• Completes the Encounter Form indicating the correct procedure codes for billing
Additional Responsibilities:
• Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned
• Earns required CEU’s to maintain licensure
• Maintains an organized and clean work area
• Travel to different FMC work locations as requested
Job Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Certified Ultrasound Tech with training in Cardiology Studies
• Knowledge of cardiac congenital abnormalities and pathology
• Registered or registry eligible (ARDCS)
• BCLS Certification
• Strong customer service orientation
• Heightened sensitivity to patient’s physical and psychological needs
• Ability to maintain quality and high standards independently to deliver excellent studies in a high capacity environment
Physical and Mental Demands:
• Normal physical ability; able to sit and stand for long periods
• Requires ability to frequently bend, walk, stand and sit for prolonged periods
• The ability to think critically and act logically to evaluate situations, solve problems and make appropriate decisions
• High level verbal and written communication skills
• Detailed oriented individual with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Occupational Exposure:
• Low risk exposure to blood borne pathogens and chemical hazards
