Reference #: 18345 Job Summary: Directs the Middle Market Banking activities across the Synovus Bank footprint. Sets and manages the execution of the Middle Market strategy to expand Synovus credit and deposit relationships with operating companies with revenue between $35MM and $500MM. Differentiates Middle Market strategies and business goals in accordance with the growth potential of the market. Encourages a culture of cooperation and cross-sell expectations with the Retail, Community and FMS Banking Groups. Manages a group of Market Leads responsible for teams of Middle Market bankers and support staff. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Working with the Chief Corporate Banking Officer and other senior bank leaders, develops and leads the execution of effective strategies to capture new Middle Market segment banking business, emphasizing expectations for Middle Market Bankers to develop and manage portfolios of $150MM to $250MM. Ensures the Middle Market Banking strategy is aligned with and supports the overall Synovus corporate strategy. Identifies market opportunities that are consistent with the strategy of the business and takes appropriate action to capitalize on those opportunities. Partners with the Credit Risk Management teams to ensure the appropriate level of risk assessments are being performed on all potential commercial business activities, and that all risks identified are being mitigated in accordance with standard operating procedures. Serves as a resource on company committees establishing, reviewing and setting policies and procedures. Employs established methods or techniques in the analysis of financial data. Uses knowledge of financial data, including history, strengths, and weaknesses, to evaluate potential solutions to situations. Develops, implements, and monitors action plans to ensure the attainment of financial goals. Uses objective financial and business analyses to evaluate the returns and risks of business choices. Analyzes and integrates trends and patterns to determine the root causes of problems and identify solutions. Evaluates short and long-term implications of decisions. Accurately forecasts growth, costs, and business challenges. Responsible for optimizing execution and results. Uses the advantage of company size, internal and external resources, and talent to achieve success. Develops and communicates logical, convincing justifications, including lessons learned, that build commitment and support for perspectives and initiatives. Listens to, leverages, and promotes the diverse ideas, perspectives, and contributions of others on the team. Serves as an advocate for proactive planning and continuous improvement; creates an environment where everyone is held accountable for achieving goals and results. Makes sure desired change initiatives and priorities are implemented appropriately; Continuously assesses actual performance results against goals and objectives, adjusting tactical and operational plans accordingly. Identifies opportunities and takes action to enhance compliance within own organization. Ensures Middle Market Leads and Middle Market Bankers receive the communication and instruction needed to act in accordance with policies and procedures. Promotes reputation and social responsibility; seeks and maintains external relationships and alliances, strengthening the company's impact on and reputation in the community. Serves as a credible spokesperson, representative, and sponsor of the company to the public and the community. Consults with the Regional HR Director to develop and implement strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce by diagnosing capability gaps; recruiting, selecting, and developing talent; supporting mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning and supporting associate efforts in these areas. Keeps HR informed about strategic business plan initiatives that requires HR support. Directs the activities of Middle Market Banking. Provides leadership, direction and growth opportunities to members of the department, performing those responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning or directing work, appraising performance, disciplining team members and resolving problems. Works with the Human Resources Department to resolve more complex team member-related issues. If the incumbent has been identified as a Risk liaison by Synovus Risk, incumbent will be Risk Liaison between the business unit (BU) leader(s) and the functional risk areas, responsible for communicating and promoting the understanding of risk management and compliance requirements within the BU, informing the business line executive of material changes in risk or control breakdown deficiencies, and communicating self-testing results, breach of KRI's and loss/near miss incidents to the appropriate risk function in a timely manner. Participates in BU risk assessment activities and verifies that ongoing risk triggers and policy exceptions are tracked and reported appropriately. Monitors the business unit's resolution of internal and external issues and exam findings. If the incumbent has been identified as a Business Unit (BU) Leader by Synovus Risk, the Business Unit (BU) Leader owns all risk within the business unit and is responsible for BU compliance with all laws, regulations and risk limits. Incurs and manages risk within Synovus' and the business line's established risk appetite, policies, procedures and limits. Monitors, escalates and develops remediation plans for significant breaches of KRI's or other identified risks and resolves internal and external issues and exam findings. Performs other related duties as required. Minimum Education: Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field Minimum Experience: Twelve (12) plus years of job specific work experience with demonstrated professional growth and achievement in an organization of comparable size, business diversity, scope and complexity. Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Minimum of 10 years proven and progressive Middle Market or Corporate Banking lending /credit experience Experience managing a Middle Market or Corporate Banking teams Manages successful relationships with senior executives, regulators, key stakeholders and customers Demonstrated experience calling on large public and private companies, and managing large portfolios of complex credit relationships Extensive experience in the areas of loan structuring and approval, credit analysis, underwriting, and portfolio management Experience developing loan strategy and credit policies Advanced knowledge of credit review tools and their applications Advanced knowledge of federal and state credit regulations Experience implementing enterprise-wide initiatives The information on this description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
