Job Title: Social & Behavioral Researcher/Temporary
Hiring Salary/Salary Range: $1,781.60 bi-weekly
The Birth Defects Surveillance Program (BDSP), in collaboration with the Florida Department of Health and the Florida Birth Defects Registry (FBDR), perform birth defects surveillance and research. The BDSP focuses on improving the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of the Florida Birth Defects Registry by performing statewide enhanced surveillance of select major birth defects. The BDSP also supports and collaborates with stakeholders on prevention and education programs and gathering information on the systems of care serving Florida’s families to improve access to health services and early intervention programs. This appointment requires a valid driver’s license.  This appointment will require travel and some overnight stay.
In office/remote: 40-50%
Travel/onsite” 50-60%
DUTIES:
• Perform a comprehensive review of medical records to identify and confirm disease diagnoses.
• Performs data entry of demographic and clinical data into a database management system.
• Coordinates multi-week travel to counties throughout the state by planning visits to multiple facilities, making travel arrangements and submitting travel. Establishes and maintains working relationships with Health Information Management staff in statewide medical facilities to schedule appointments and request records for review.
• Contributes to the development of reports for team meetings and project progress reports, and procedure manuals and abstractor's handbooks for conducting enhanced birth defect surveillance.
• Other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
• This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a field directly related to the research or data analysis responsibilities and a minimum of one year of research experience; or a Master’s degree in one of the same fields. Four years of progressively responsible work experience in a field directly related to the research may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree.
PREFERRED:
• MS or MPH degree in Nursing, Public Health or a related health sciences field with emphasis in maternal and child health. Must have knowledge of medical terminology and experience with medical records.  A BS degree with one year of medical records abstraction experience may substitute MS or MPH.
