Position Overview:
The Director of Industrial Hygiene develops, implements, and ensures Industrial Hygiene (IH) program sustainability for all processing plants. This role will oversee all Industrial Hygiene programs and ensure continuous improvement and industry best practices in collaboration with site Environmental, Safety & Occupational Health (S&OH), Operations, Engineering, and all support staff. This position reports directly to the Vice President of S&OH and manages all third party IH contractors.
Critical Success Criteria: • Develop, implement, and lead multi-site IH programs; adopting industry best practices and ensuring regulatory standards are met or exceeded
• Develop and execute facility exposure assessments, IH monitoring plans and hygiene cleaning programs
• Develop and implement long-term strategies for continuous improvement in IH programs
• Champion and foster company vision, values and culture by ensuring individual/team actions and behaviors are in alignment
Other Responsibilities:
• Develop and report out on plant process controls that impact worker safety (IH)
• Manage the site's respirator and hearing conservation programs, including compliance with medical clearance, respirator fit testing, and ear plug validation testing
• Manage the site's portable and personal gas monitor programs, including auditing compliance with calibrations, bump testing, and reporting
• Conduct routine audits of medical providers to ensure all medical surveillance requirements are being met
• Act as the business IH/Occupational Health Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Management of Change (MOC) requests, Capital Projects, and RD Projects
• Develop or updates all IH training, including IH exposure hazards, new hire and CBTs
• Manage the company's written IH, compliance, data management, and auditing programs
• Responsible for system support applications for IH program sustainability and drives implementation
• Engage with Operations, Maintenance, Training, and Engineering to create management system buy-in
• Manage a team of third party IH consultants and vendors to support program design and execution
• Collaborate with the S&OH Organization in the creation of goals, tracking of initiatives and performance management
• Assist in or conducts investigations related to IH, evaluates cause(s) of accidents, identifies corrective action as necessary, advises management on corrective action, ensures corrective action is completed as necessary
Requirements:
• Bachelor's in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental, Industrial Hygiene or related field from accredited College or University
• Minimum 10 years' experience in the industrial hygiene within an industrial or chemical manufacturing environment or with a regulatory agency
• Previous experience in site IH management roles with emphasis on implementing OSHA IH regulatory programs
• Certification through the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (CIH or CAIH)
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal OSHA regulations for IH
• Working knowledge for the following IH programs; Lead, Arsenic, Cadmium and Heat
• Ability to develop and present presentations to wide target groups of employees at all levels of the organization
• Technical proficiency with MS Office including PowerPoint
• Interpersonal skills and ability to establish relationships across all levels of the organization and with a diverse workforce
• Organizational and project management skills; capacity to be flexible and adaptable, and change priorities and direction as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's Degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental or Engineering or related discipline from an accredited College or University preferred, but not required
• Subject Matter Expert in Federal OSHA regulations in the following programs: Lead, Arsenic, Cadmium and Heat preferred, but not required
• Demonstrated experience in project management and program implementation preferred, but not required
• Experience with management software systems (i.e., Intelex or Other EHS Software Management Programs) preferred, but not required
• Certification through Board of Certified Safety Professionals such as CSP, ASP, GSP, STS, or CET preferred, but not required
