Job Summary
One of the major purposes of the legal internship is to provide a law student with meaningful educationally related work experiences. The intern role is limited to the Summer terms only.
The dates for the internship program commence June through September 2021. Interns are expected to work full-time hours of at least (30 hours per week). The expectation is that the internship will be the main priority for the candidate during the tenure of the internship.
Our company has an in-house legal and compliance department that provides legal services as well as regulatory compliance guidance to the various internal business units. Intern duties will include representing the credit union in litigation, contract reviews, research and analysis of all laws and regulations that affect the credit union. The department also assists in implementing actions and guidelines necessary to ensure compliance.
Experience: • Demonstrated judgment in making decisions.
• Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Office applications.
• Verbal communication and writing/documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently, and as a team member, while using discretion in making decisions and sound judgment in solving problems.
• Ability to meet deadlines for project completion.
• Ability to present a professional image when working with Management, as well as in professional. associations and other external interactions on behalf of our company.
• Thrives in a fast-paced environment and works well independently.
Operational:
• Must demonstrate a functional knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act in addition to other Federal laws, including but not limited to U.S. Patriot Act, Office of Foreign Assets & Control, Anti-Money Laundering, Right to Financial Privacy Act, and the Bank Bribery Act.
• Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish).
Required Qualifications:
• Current law student in an accredited law school.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
• Must submit a cover letter, resume, transcripts, and provide 3 references
• Demonstration of extra-curricular and community service activities
• Currently enrolled as a 3L
Position Details:
• Location: Downtown Tampa - Headquarters
• Department Hours: Monday- Friday (8:00 am to 6:00 pm)
Full-time hours required, with additional hours as necessary to accomplish objectives, goals, and projects.
