Job Summary
This role will be accountable for the Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) training across the facility and all functions. This person will help deliver the day one PIT training for new hires and conduct ongoing certification, evaluation, and training for existing associates. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the operation of a forklift, electric pallet jack (riding & walkie), scissor lifts, boom lifts, hand truck... including skills in both classroom discussion and hands-on practical instruction. Ability to focus on operating procedures, such as how to drive the forklift vehicle and operate the hydraulic lift safely, loading and unloading materials, handling hazardous materials, and performing vehicle maintenance.
Some examples of the training and guidelines they will deliver include but are not limited to: • Accounting for visibility restrictions
• Conveying work-place hazards and ensure students have the ability to recognize and correct for hazards
• Mastering vehicle controls and instrumentation
• Steering the vehicle
• Inspecting and maintaining motor and components of each PIT operated
• Accounting for vehicle capacity and stability
• Load stacking, unstacking and moving
• Understanding of Federal, State, Local and Company Policy and Requirements
• Accounting for accessories that may be operated in conjunction with the PIT, as well as required PPE (i.e., forklift mancage, or fall protection for lifts)
Schedule: Mon-Fri 10A-7P, must be willing to flex due to training schedule of Day and Night shift employees
Role Responsibilities
• Support PIT training needs of the location
• Evaluate performance
• Communicate site specific hazards and traffic routing and rules
• Coordinate all PIT Training activities including re-certifications
• Executes network stand training program(s)
• Audits executing and of PIT training delivery
• Providing continuous ongoing support to the PIT training
• Partner with Operations and EHSS (Environment Health, Safety and Sustainability) to ensure network standard training materials
• Maintain site's PIT training records and document
Role Requirements
• Prior PIT operating experience
• Organization and basic Project Management skills
• Proficiency in computer usage to include email, MS Office Suite, etc.
• Communication, both written and verbal
• Ability to give and receive constructive feedback
• Previous experience delivering PIT training/information to peers and management in group setting and individually desired
• Willing to work flexible schedule
• Experience as a forklift operator in a warehouse setting or the transportation of cargo in another setting
• Knowledge of safety awareness when operating any piece of material handling equipment
• Working knowledge of forklift, pallet jack and basic maintenance routines of equipment to improve safety and efficiency
• Must be able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and continuously changing environment
To comply with OSHA each trainer must meet the qualifications outlined below for each PIT:
Knowledge:
All trainers must satisfy the following knowledge requirements:
• Demonstrated ability to understand PIT's manuals, manufacturer's specifications, drawings, instrumentation, and parts lists
• Familiarity with industry terminology, the terms used within our Florida P.I.T. Safety Program, and terms used by OSHA.
• Demonstrated knowledge of any State-specific or local regulation/legislation applicable to the operation of powered industrial trucks that may exceed the minimum standards set forth in the policy and program
• Demonstrated ability to incorporate State-specific or local requirements into the Florida PIT program and ensure training is then site-specific and meets the needs of the employees in that environment
• Demonstrated knowledge of workplace-specific hazards and how to train students to recognize and correct those hazards
• Demonstrated knowledge of the purpose and function of all components, devices, PPE and accessories commonly used on or in conjunction with PIT (such as man cages, fall protection, etc.), and how to carry out an inspection to determine that all are functioning
• A working knowledge of electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems in order to have sufficient background information to explain the elements within our Florida PIT Training Program
• A working knowledge of the various energy sources associated with PITs (such as industrial batteries, natural gas, propane, gasoline, diesel) and how to handle them including how to fuel, change, charge, store, handle and maintain them. The trainer must also know the specific
• hazards associated with these energy sources and systems
Operating Skills:
All trainers must be able to perform the following skills:
• Pre-Start Check
• Start-up and shut-down of each PIT
• Proficient in stopping, starting, turning, driving forward and in reverse, parking and operating around personnel and other objects for each PIT
• Proficient in load handling, including selection and security of loads, pick-up and placement, stacking and steering for each PIT
• Proficient in loading and unloading trailers, racking, and other structures for each PIT
