PRIMARY PURPOSE
Serve as a strategic business partner to organizational leadership and employees. Provide expertise with employee relations matters, performance and talent management, and compliance with company policy and employment laws to support business operations and strategic goals. Collaborate with other departments to guide organizational leaders in the areas of employee engagement, diversity/inclusion programs, compensation administration and general trouble-shooting.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide expertise with employee relations matters, including conducting investigations and providing coaching with performance management. Assist managers in developing interventions and performance improvement strategies to promote positive employee relations. Ensure that all Bright Horizons' policies and procedures are followed and that employees are treated fairly in line with policies and our HEART Principles. Follow up with urgency to ensure employee relations issues are resolved promptly.
• Ensure fair and equitable practices with employees including compliance with company policies and local, state and federal legal standards. Respond to employee complaints and inquiries with urgency. Conduct investigations to ensure company practices are properly followed. Support legal team in responding to EEO complaints and legal claims.
• Establish a collaborative working relationship with leadership in assigned business units. Provide expert advice and training as needed. Be present and visible in assigned worksites to build relationships with leaders and employees. Travel to assigned worksites is required. Act as a resource to managers in implementing and maintaining positive work environments. Provide training and guidance to leadership team members in maintaining a proactive approach towards potential employee relations issues.
• Provide consultation through phone and email support to assigned worksites, educating leaders about employee relations practices, troubleshooting potential problem areas, and providing support, training and advice to directors as needed. Travel is required to attend leadership meetings within assigned business units.
• Guide operational leadership in the area of diversity and inclusion in collaboration with D&I team. Support awareness training objectives, company goals, and inclusive employment practices.
• In collaboration with the Benefits COE and HRSC, provide guidance to leadership regarding leave of absence administration, reinstatement and interaction with ADA requirements.
• Analyze job performance appraisals to ensure they are appropriate to the position, incorporate all essential functions and comply with all company requirements. Provide training and resources to business units to support that quality feedback and goals are provided through the JPA process to all employees. Conduct talent reviews with organizational leaders to identify key talent, determine next steps for their continued development, and support leaders with executing these steps.
• Complete other projects for the human resources department as needed.
DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY
• Exercises discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.
• Resolution of issues of greater complexity or those that involve potential legal concerns may be escalated to the Director of HRBP and VP assigned business unit.
• Plan and implement strategies requiring in-depth knowledge of human resources principles, legal precedents and company practices.
RECOMMENDED EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE/ SKILLS
• Minimum of five years of proven HR experience with a minimum of three years of employee relations experience.
• Multi-site service industry preferred.
• Bachelor's degree or HR certification preferred.
• Must be analytical, have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects.
• Problem solving, diplomacy and good judgment in considering the impact of decisions is essential.
• Knowledge of HRIS preferred.
