Full Job Description Production Associate (Part-Time) Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts

Located in downtown Tampa, the Straz offers flexible hours, event-based schedules including evenings and weekends, and a team-based work environment. Straz benefits for full-time staff include options for health/dental, vision and other benefits plus a generous 403(b) plan.
This position reports to the Technical Director and provides technical support to the Production Department of the Patel Conservatory and participates in various duties associated with Space and Equipment. The Production Associate may also take on additional duties consistent with their specific area of expertise (i.e. teaching, stage managing, lighting design, etc.), subject to supervisor approval.
P* r *i m* ary D *u t* i *e s and R* e *s p* ons *i b* i *l i* t *i e* s *:
• Assists in departmental functions and special events and performs other duties when necessary to ensure the overall smooth operation of the department.
• Oversees & maintains the scenic shop and backstage facilities including equipment storage areas.
• Assists with the creation and maintenance of the weekly Equipment Schedule and daily classroom walkthrough.
• Assists Space and Equipment, when needed, with setting-up and tearing down classroom space and rehearsal spaces within the Conservatory and the Straz Center.
• Assists in departmental functions and special events and performs other duties when necessary to ensure the overall smooth operation of the department.
• Assists with allocating and maintaining equipment.
• Assists with student escorting and pick up/drop off as requested.
• Maintains inventory of classroom supplies and equipment with the advisement of the Technical Supervisor.
• Works with the Technical Director in the development and facilitation of technical theater training for interns, apprentices and volunteers participating in production roles within the Conservatory.
• Attends production meetings as assigned.
• Provides event and production specific support duties based on skills and experience, i.e. Lighting Operator, Sound Engineer, Stage Manager, etc.
• Teaches technical theater courses and workshops as requested
• Agrees to a flexible schedule, including evening and weekends as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Technical Director.

• This position may supervise interns, apprentices and volunteers under the direction of the Technical Director.

• Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered for employment
• Self-motivated with strong administrative and organizational skills, along with close attention to detail and ability to maintain good records
• Background in technical theater, design or stage management for theater, preferred
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work with tact, diplomacy, discretion; adept at interacting positively with co-workers and management
• Knowledge of the Microsoft suite of business applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as scheduled
• Ability to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Must be willing and available to work on-site

• High School Diploma
• 2 years of experience in a theatrical and/or educational setting
• 2 years of stage management and/or design experience preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
• Sit and use the telephone and computer for long periods of time
• Walk or stand for long periods of time
• Reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear
The employee frequently:
• Lifts and moves event materials or theatrical equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.
• Ascends and descends narrow ladders between floors backstage
Employee must have the ability to:
• Identify visual and auditory difficulties occurring during events/productions
• Perform work in low light areas and/or areas of restricted access
• Operate electrical or sound equipment
Position occasionally requires:
• Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Work in areas where hazardous materials (e.g. spray paint or cleansers) are present
