Department Profile
The Patient Transport Department strives to practice safe patient treatment and working with a sense of urgency to ensure that all patients at TGH arrive at their destination in a safe and timely manner. The Patient Transport department moves patients from testing areas, surgical suits, and various units in the hospital. In a single day, one transporter can transport over 25 patients and walk over 10,000 steps.
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Manager of Patient Transport, the Transporter is responsible for the completion of assignments, as received from Transport Tracking System or Dispatcher, for transport of patients and equipment within established departmental time frames and productivity standards, and following departmental operational and safety policies and procedures.  Demonstrates positive customer relations, infection control and risk management practices. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• High School Diploma or GED and BLS Certification required.
• One of the following 3 are also required
(1) Florida EMT-B certification and completion of additional training for electrocardiogram monitoring and interpretation
(2) Completion of EKG certification with additional training in patient transport
(3) Florida paramedic certification.
