Genetic Risk Program Assistant - Genetics Counseling# The Genetic Counseling Assistant serves as an assistant to the cancer genetic counselors for the Genetic Risk Assessment Services (GRAS) at Moffitt Cancer Center. The Genetic Counseling Assistant is responsible for the collection of patient information prior to the genetic counseling appointment, data entry of intake information, coordination of patient care, and facilitation of genetic testing requisitions with outside laboratories. The Genetic Counseling Assistant helps build a relationship with patients and the GRAS. The successful candidate will be a superior communicator, an engaged team member, and a knowledgeable, patient focused individual.# Responsibilities: Obtaining a family history by phone and constructing detailed pedigree; Prepare patient charts with completed risk assessment and other pertinent forms and records; Coordinate release of outside medical records; Inform patients about the process of and expectations for genetic counseling; Package specimen collection kits; Facilitate prior authorizations for genetic testing # genetic counseling and relay this information to patients as appropriate; Follow up with patients regarding insurance denials, explanation of benefits, and general billing questions; Triage phone calls for the dedicated genetics phone (50 calls/day on average) and monitor/respond to all voicemails for genetic counselors; Prioritize appointment requests based on urgent and non-urgent needs; Assist in scheduling, re-scheduling, and canceling new # existing patient appointments; Act as point of contact to patient # families to help navigate central scheduling; # Credentials and Qualifications: Bachelor#s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, Psychology, or other relevant science field; Minimum one (1) year experience in a healthcare setting in a clinical or administrative role preferred; Experience in a medical facility, currently in or completion of genetics rotation clinical program preferred; Experience with Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook); Experience with utilization of electronic health records; Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in order to enhance the patient experience; Must also possess strong organization and multi-tasking skills; Highly motivated and attentive to detail.
