For cancer patients with already compromised immune systems, what starts as a minor medical issue can rapidly escalate into an emergency requiring care from a team of dedicated professionals familiar with managing the side effects and complications of cancer and cancer treatment. Moffitt Urgent Care provides expedited treatment and care 24 hours a day, seven days a week for Moffitt patients.# This allows Moffitt to treat more patients with urgent cancer related needs on-site. Moffitt Urgent Care has 27 dedicated beds.# The staff consists of a Medical Attending, Mid-level Providers, Registered Nurses, Medical Office Assistants and Hospital Unit Coordinators. The Moffitt Urgent Care medical team is fully trained to diagnose and treat many common cancer-related, medical and surgical complications, and side effects of cancer treatment such as: Neutropenic fevers Infections Shortness of breath Intractable nausea/vomiting Intractable pain Moffitt Cancer Center is currently looking for a Telephone Triage RN to be our specialist in our Urgent Care. Position Highlights: Provides professional nursing triage services and health advice to patients over the phone Performs a detailed evaluation of patient symptoms and provides appropriate medical advice on treating symptoms and/ or recommendations for escalating treatment. Follows established procedures and protocols and documents call as required. Serves as the initial nursing contact for the incoming calls and delivers individualized nursing care to patients in accordance to Moffitt guidelines, nursing care standards and Moffitt policies and procedures. Other duties assigned by Manager. Responsibilities: Thoroughly assesses information given over the phone from the patient. Could include information such as symptoms, current medications, insurance etc. From information given, is able to problem solve, answer and complete as many calls as possible in a timely fashion. Communicates patient data to appropriate members of the healthcare team. If unable to triage phone call on her/ his own, gets pertinent information from the appropriate staff member and then addresses the situation with the patients. Establishes effective communication to facilitate an interdisciplinary approach to the total management of the patient. Provides patient education throughout diagnosis and treatment process. The Ideal Candidate will have the following qualifications: 5 years of oncology experience as a registered nurse Strong assessment skills Excellent listening and communication skills; ability to remain calm in crisis situations; good problem solving and organizational skills. Credentials and Qualifications: ASN degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited institution with 5 years of nursing experience AND enrolled in an ACEN or CCNE accredited BSN program to be completed within 3 years; or, BSN degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited institution with 5 years of nursing experience 5 years of nursing experience Valid and Active RN License BLS Certification
