Job Purpose
The HSE Director is responsible for overseeing USG safety professionals to guide, coach, advise, and mentor them on inspections, observations, investigations, safety training, and regulatory compliance. This position supports the Operations team and works with personnel in all departments.
Responsibilities:
1. Implement and coordinate programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, and financial losses.
2. Conduct or direct activities to identify hazards and evaluate loss producing potential of given system, operation or process.
3. Develop accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies of the organization.
4. Coordinate safety activities of operational regions to ensure implementation of safety activities throughout the organization.
5. Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational injuries, illness and accidents and prepares reports for information of personnel concerned.
6. Liaise with outside organizations to ensure information exchange and mutual assistance.
7. Evaluate technical and scientific publications concerned with safety management and participate in activities of related professional organizations to update knowledge of safety program developments.
8. Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. A Bachelor's degree, or equivalent.
2. 10 years of related experience.
3. Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.
4. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
5. Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
6. Ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
7. Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
9. Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP).
2. OSHA 1910 General Industry Standards.
3. OSHA 1926 Construction Industry Standards.
4. OSHA Outreach Training.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, this role works in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
