Full Job Description Hospice of Western Kentucky’s Mission Statement is “Helping individuals live with dignity through the final stage of life”. Hospice of Western Kentucky is looking for individuals with Commitment, Creativity, Compassion and Integrity to join our team.
Hospice of Western Kentucky is growing and looking for full time Business Development Manager. With a mission to help individuals live with dignity through the final stages of life, Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky is a non-profit organization whose goal is to serve ALL eligible patients and their families within our service area. The Business Development Manager
is directly responsible for increasing the Average Daily Census, as well as Average Length of Stay, to ensure this goal is accomplished and maintained.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Physical activities including standing, lifting (up to 50 pounds unassisted), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, twisting, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires the ability to operate office equipment, computers, and the office telephone system.
DUTIES:
1. Responsible for all census development through management of the Business Development Team of Provider Liaisons.
2. Supervises the Provider Liaison Team.
3. Ensures Provider Liaisons communicate and educate potential referral sources on the benefits of Hospice care, specifically Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky.
4. Works closely with the Admissions Manager, Admissions Team and Community Outreach Liaisons to ensure a cohesive and seamless transition from first point of contact (referral) until completion of admission process.
5. Troubleshoots any issues regarding care of current patients and/or families and is instrumental in communicating with providers and patient care team to determine solutions to these problems.
6. Will occasionally work to develop new ways to communicate with referral sources to fulfill the organization’s mission.
7. Develops and implements strategies which result in admissions to both our hospice and palliative care programs.
8. Actively engages care partners to cultivate them as integral partners in the seamless transference of care from one stage of illness to the next.
9. Performs other duties as needed.
10. Participates in orientation, in-service training and mandatory meetings.
This position will have a short-term focus on performing the duties of Provider Liaison as listed below:
1. Participates in development and implementation of strategic plan for the organization to communicate with, and educate, physicians and the community.
2. Maintains thorough understanding of hospice industry trends and practices.
3. Maintains thorough understanding of federal and state regulatory issues relative to inducements for referrals, anti-kickback laws, etc.
4. Assists in the development of in-service trainings for referral partners, including the development of curricula, scheduling of educational offerings, choosing staff and outside individuals to provide presentations, and evaluating the effectiveness of educational offerings.
5. Actively schedules and participates in education (including collaborating with healthcare providers and partners such as physicians, hospitals, home health agencies, long-term care centers and others) to accomplish specific goals:
• Increasing the number of individuals accessing hospice care.
• Increasing provider understanding of the value of hospice care.
• Understanding and increasing Hospice of Western Kentucky’s brand and brand awareness.
• Increasing length of stay.
• Developing a clearly defined message and delivery system.
• Understanding and developing needs-based selling.
6. Maintains a comprehensive list of the names and contacts of key referral sources.
7. Communicates with referring physicians regarding patients and families; communication ay include but is not limited to care plans, physical care, emotional care and spiritual care of both patients and families. Problem solve with referring physicians and other referral sources regarding key issues and concerns, and present solutions to their needs. Communication also includes promoting the benefits of hospice care and palliative care for patients, families and providers as a major solution to the problems they are facing.
8. Liaison should also be proficient in counselor-based exploratory techniques, using probing questions to uncover provider needs and problems, then offering suggestions and solutions that our hospice, palliative care and/or bereavement services may provide.
9. Manages existing relationships by making routine, scheduled visits and phone calls to referral sources.
10. Initiates new relationships.
11. Documents visits and runs visit reports.
12. Meets referral goals and objectives.
13. Analyzes referral trends and patterns of assigned accounts.
14. Runs monthly reports by referral source and by service area for assigned accounts.
15. Initiates new opportunities for community involvement and education.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.
17. Participates in orientation, in-service training and mandatory meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in communications, sales, marketing or related field. Associate Degree minimum; RN optional,
- Two years previous sales or marketing preferred in areas such as: calling on physician offices in medical supply sales, pharmaceutical sales, home health/skilled nursing marketing or business to business sales.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, board members, and general public.
- Ability to supervise others.
- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience and contact in Daviess, Hancock, Muhlenberg, Hopkins and McLean Counties preferred.
- Desire to work as part of a team and willingness to represent the principles, views and mission of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky.-

- Request or deny the Hepatitis B Vaccination.
- Receive or deny yearly influenza vaccination.
Physical Job:
- Must have current driver’s license, arrange travel, and be able to access patient homes independently.
- Is willing to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
