The Vice President of Business Development is responsible for the acquisition and business development objectives within defined markets.  This position will collaborate with market leadership and Corporate Acquisitions to define a market-specific acquisition strategy.  This strategy supports the successful retention, management, and growth of the employed WellMed primary care, specialty care, and ancillary provider network.  These initiatives should result in strategically-placed, high-performing employed providers, thereby supporting the vision of changing the face of healthcare delivery.  Furthermore, this position will drive the financial viability of the market and provide a continuum of care for members.
The responsibilities of this position demand a wide range of capabilities including but not limited to: strong relationship-building skills, strategic planning and analysis skills, strong understanding of billing and collections for physicians and medical practices, accounting knowledge and an understanding of financial statements, understanding of managed care contracts, highly developed executive-level communications and negotiations skills, and the ability to develop and implement clear action plans, while encountering ambiguous issues with numerous interdependencies.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Provides a centralized focus for acquisition market strategy, leadership and accountability as it relates to target identification, acquisition pursuits, and integration
• Leads acquisition strategy within a given market and coordinates with the implementation strategy. Identifies potential risks and issues related to integration planning, timelines, cultural integration and functional areas
• Evaluates and makes recommendations for business development and expansion
• Excellent relationship building skills with all levels of people including executives, physicians, office managers and physician office staff
• Facilitates and oversees strategic business meetings with physician groups and WellMed Physician and Market executives.
• Takes full accountability for acquisition performance in a market
• Facilitates provider discussions and assists in providing information to the acquisition team regarding location, market needs, provider reputation and the culture of the office in regard to an acquisition
• Communicates detailed information regarding a provider being considered for an acquisition including office demographics, current MA knowledge and membership of provider, and reasons for provider’s interest in acquisition
• Continuously strives to ensure that favorable relationships are maintained while ensuring the interest of the organization and maintaining confidentiality
• Takes ownership of total work process and provides constructive information to ensure acquisition team has support to meet initiatives
• Works closely with market and acquisition team by identifying provider and business opportunities, and acts as a liaison during the due diligence and acquisition process
• Facilitates relationship with Clinic Integration and Implementation team to triage culture needs and development of individualized implementation plan
• Maintains on-going relationship with providers to ensure smooth transition and effective integration
• Conducts post integration evaluation of plan and process and implements appropriate changes on a go-forward basis.  Communicates results and best practices to support functions and amends processes
• Continually seeks ways to improve job efficiencies
• Ensures key milestones are met by support functions and works to resolve issues and roadblocks
• Performs all other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field (8 additional years of comparable work experience beyond the required years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree)
• 15 years of increasing responsibility in Accounting, Human Resources, Project Management, Sales or other related discipline
• 10 years of increasing responsibility in a healthcare operations environment
• Ability & experience in presenting M&A & strategic projects to exec management
• Knowledge of the healthcare industry and related business functions
• Solid analytical skills with PC proficiency
• Willingness and ability to frequently travel
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in one of the aforementioned areas of study
• Managed Care, ACO or IPA experience
• Experience with highly regulated or Medicare environment and direct engagement with primary care physicians
• Ability to communicate ideas and work towards problem solutions, specifically in the executive / C-suite
• Ability to effectively work with people in other departments and/or outside of the enterprise
Physical & Mental Requirements:
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time
• Ability to use fine motor skills to operate office equipment and/or machinery
• Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing
• Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex problem solving
