The Legal Chief Data Office (CDO) is responsible for Legal data and knowledge strategy, architecture, governance, and capabilities across the Global Legal department. As the data and knowledge champions for Legal, the CDO will set the direction and approach to implement effective and best-in-class data and knowledge management frameworks, controls and capabilities for Legal owned data and knowledge assets. As such, the Legal CDO team will be responsible for all aspects of defining and executing strategies for managing, sharing and extracting value from Legal owned Data and Knowledge assets.
The Legal CDO is hiring a senior manager to lead its Data Capabilities and Delivery function. This individual and team will be responsible for establishing and operating a best-in-class function responsible for the intake, delivery and maintenance of all Legal BI (Business Intelligence)/MI (Management Information) requests and capabilities. This includes partnering with the respective Global Legal Solutions (GLS) and GFT (Global Functions Technology) teams, and Legal stakeholders to drive implementation and adoption of firm wide foundational data capabilities and tooling.
Responsibilities:
• Work with management and stakeholders to prioritize and implement strategies for generating insights and value from Legal data
• Implement and manage a Legal BI/MI request intake and triage process including a consolidated reporting catalog and self-service portal
• In partnership with stakeholders from GLS and GFT, lead all aspects of the Legal data delivery lifecycle including requirements gathering, design, development, delivery and maintenance of ad-hoc and standard reports, dashboards, scorecards, metrics and analytics solutions
• Help Enterprise Data Capabilities to define the strategy for the data capabilities, including the interim and target state architecture, processes, governance, and sub-capabilities; work with Legal to receive buy-in to the business strategy, target state, and execution plan
• Help identify tooling needed for foundational data capabilities and evaluate existing tooling available in the environment today
• Work with Enterprise Data Capabilities to track Legal plans against the enterprise master plan; ensure Legal budgets will be spent in alignment with the strategic capability goals
• Understand specifications for the implementation – or enhancement – of all data governance tools and engage with foundational data capability initiatives and relevant users of all types; implement clear process flows for their use
• Lead the execution for business-critical data capabilities at FCDO level to address projects/value stream needs by leveraging world class data techniques; drive adoption of the Capabilities into the businesses, end users, and use cases
• Partner with Technology: to adopt and implement all necessary data governance tools at FCDO level; e.g., to discover or automate capture of all required metadata to the greatest extent possible including when new technology is created or when major modifications to existing technology are made
• Partner with data governance tool operational users to ensure effective and sustainable data governance processes (e.g., documentation of data lineage; logging of data quality defects) for Legal
• Collaborate with users of all types to deliver insights gained from Legal data and ensure adoption of BI/MI solutions and tools
Qualifications:
• 12+ years of finance and overall business management experience in a complex, financial organization, with particular focus on data quality
• JD preferred but not required; Bachelor’s degree required
• Expertise in data analytics, strategy, data science and design thinking
• Technical expertise regarding Legal data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques
• Exceptionally strong interpersonal and communication skills; strong technology skills
• Proven ability to act independently, work quickly and with careful attention to detail, juggle multiple priorities and thrive in a varied, fast-paced environment
• Proven ability to lead across a large, global financial firm
• Proven ability to work well under pressure and within tight deadlines
• Proven ability to communicate effectively, drive consensus, and influence relationships at all levels
• Strong analytical/problem solving skills; sound judgment and demonstrated leadership skills
