What you'll be doing...
The successful candidate will join the Core Network Engineering team with responsibilities for engineering Verizon's new Intelligent Edge Network in the west territory. This new network leverages virtualization and software defined networking to transform how we provide products and services while maintaining our position as the industry leader. Verizon is seeking a motivated and driven engineering professional who will assume responsibilities for engineering IP networking build projects and work closely with the Capacity Planning, Design and Operations teams to implement our strategic technology goals. The candidate will work to create an environment of teamwork and cooperation with all stakeholders including; territories, edge, and design. Be visible and lead by example.
• Work to support Verizon's strategic technology goals including the ongoing migration of core elements to the intelligent edge network.
• Work on engineering and deploying directional networks for Intelligent Edge, including but not limited to: SAP ENSE Fabric, Access ENSE fabric, ISP, NNI and 5G connectivity.
• Engineering the network configuration for the onboarding of Verizon's private cloud tenants.
• Responsible for engineering IP edge networks at Service Aggregation Points (SAP).
• Work on engineering and deploying directional networks for Intelligent Edge, including but not limited to: SAP ENSE Fabric, Access ENSE fabric, ISP, NNI and 5G connectivity.
• Developing network configurations from design models and templates by creating MOPs and programming automated workflows.
• Building networks for interconnection to Verizon Cloud Platforms (VCP) for growth, capacity and expansion.
• Engineering network solutions with a strong interaction with PNF and VNF applications teams.
• Working with underlay and overlay controllers for network creation, network modeling, and network deployments. Leveraging plugins for network deployments across multiple virtualized OS environments.
• Overseeing network builds from procurement to "In Service".
• Strong Interaction with design and architecture teams developing future networks.
• Work with peer teams to ensure new networks are built and migrated to meet KPI's.
• Understand end to end call flows for deploying network services.
• Managing network engineering projects to deliver on time.
• Project oversight and ownership.
• Work collaboratively with existing team members to meet team goals.
What we're looking for...
You'll need to have:
• Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Four or more years of relevant work experience.
• Experience with IP Layer 1-3 for Edge Networks and strong knowledge of MPLS.
• Hands on experience with virtualization of networks.
• Functional knowledge of TCP/IP (IPv4 and IPv6).
• Knowledge of fabric networking.
Even better if you have:
• Experience with MPLS Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPNs.
• Worked with Cisco (VTS), Nokia (Nuage) Itential (IAP) or HPNA automation tools.
• Understanding of networking-specific technologies: IPV6, L2VPN, L3VPN, OSPFv3, mp-BGP, QOS/Traffic Engineering, MPLS (LDP & TDP), inter-AS MPLS, and m-VPN.
• Hands on experience with VXLAN and/or Segment Routing.
• Cisco and Nokia or other networking certifications.
• A strong ability to understand end to end call flows for deploying network services.
• Knowledge of or prior experience with cloud and scripting experience in Linux, Openstack, Python and virtualization.
• CCNA or other networking certifications.
