What you’ll be doing...
Visible is evolving its cloud mobile network platform to push the boundaries of the traditional mobile carrier. The Visible Engineering team is seeking a Senior Java Microservices Engineer who is passionate about writing code and unafraid of solving big problems. You will bring creative ideas and energy to a team, take calculated risks with a bias to action, and challenge our thinking with an action-forward team mentality.
• Hands on software contribution - Identify when and how best to carve out platform functionality from a monolith into microservices, while balancing the ongoing needs of the business.
• Technical guidance and mentoring - Advocate for best in class developer experience in tooling, engineering processes and code patterns.
• Learn from and mentor others and participate in code reviews to continually raise the bar in our collaboration and our technical solutions.
• Uplift platform quality - Strike the right balance between quality and speed, making responsible technical and functional tradeoffs to deliver on our goals; incorporating technical debt and platform maintenance as a cornerstone of our engineering focus alongside feature development.
• Stakeholder management - Working across a complex ecosystem of technical and business partners to bring our strategic vision to reality, over and over again; communicating effectively when surprises come up and helping the team to work through dependencies and blockers.
• Flex your Java and web development tools/methodologies expertise to delight users on our web customer portal; bring new and existing core functionality into our service oriented architecture.
• Ensure solution design is well documented with special attention to extensibility, flexibility, and scalability.
• Tightly collaborate with our onshore and global delivery teams to drive, design, create, and maintain components of our Backend Systems.
• Develop and test production-level services that integrate across internal and external sources.
• Rapidly iterate on product and platform features by quickly understanding requirements and producing good quality code.
• Identify technology trends and platforms (including web and mobile apps) and collaborate with team members to recommendation solutions and options that address business and customer needs.
• Help evolve the software development methodology based on agile and lean thinking, including impacting the development of coding conventions, documentation standards, testing procedures and quality assurance.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, and software development best practices.
• Ensure technical issues are quickly resolved and implement strategies and solutions to help reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
• Identify competitive services, opportunities for innovation, and provide an assessment of obstacles and technical hurdles to the success of the project.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
• Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Four or more years of relevant work experience.
• Coding and design experience with best practices in core Java and related technologies such as JEE, Rest, Spring, Hibernate/eclipse link, JDBC, Microservices, Docker/ Kubernetes, Spring Boot.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
• Master’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology.
• Experience developing in a cloud environment like AWS/GCP and with cloud based integration and deployment technologies like build pipelines and Docker/Kubernetes.
• Experience with the following Frontend Tech stack: React (preferred), Angular, Webpack, Node.js, HTML, CSS.
• Knowledge of Java open-source and API standards.
• Knowledge of Cloud, Data Integration.
• Experience in the Data connectivity and Data access domain.
• Experience working with agile development methodologies, continuous integration, test-driven development and GIT version control.
• Strong problem solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Ability to quickly learn new technologies in a dynamic environment.
• Good organization, communication and interpersonal skills.
