Job Summary:
This position is located in the Civil Engineer Squadron, Operations Flight, and Heavy Repair shop.  Responsibilities include: Operate heavy equipment such as stake bed truck, dump truck, backhoe, crane, grader, loader, tractor trailer, aerial and stationary lifts, bobcat, steel wheel roller, asphalt paver to lift, load, haul, dump, spread, grub, excavate and level top soil, gravel, clay, sand, lime stone, and other types of materials, equipment and supplies.  Operate power tools such as, concrete saw, crack router, plate tamper, concrete recover saw, Hilti hammer/drill, rock drill, core drill, air compressor, generator, etc.  Maintain, repair, and install paved areas such as airfields, streets, curbs and gutters, parking areas, sidewalks, culverts, headwalls, and spillways.
Responsibilities:
• Construct, maintain, or repair asphalt or concrete roads, parking areas, taxiways, runways, ramps, walkways and other related facilities.
• Perform minor repair of asphalt or concrete surfaces by removing/replacing damaged or worn asphalt with the use of heavy equipment, hand tools, jackhammer, and pavement saw.
• Prepare areas for new asphalt or concrete with the use of hand tools and heavy equipment, excavate, set forms to specified grades, place and finish asphalt within industry standards, and dress up the area after completion.
• Clean out expansion joints using hand and power tools, and refill using joint sealer or other compounds.
• Install and maintain signs throughout installation.
• Dig holes for a new sign, hand mixes concrete, aligns/level posts, attach signs according to DOT standards and restore areas to the natural state.
• Maintain base signage, to include replacing worn damaged signs/posts, leveling leaning signs and replacement of concrete if needed.
• Install, replace, and maintain storm drainage system.
• Utilize hand tools and heavy equipment to repair and/or install drain pipes, clean, dredge, and reshape open drainage canals/ditches.
• Excavate and repairs damaged pipe joints using concrete/cement products.
• Replace damaged sections of pipe.
• Restore area to its natural state.
• Operates motorized and stationary aerial lift devices.
• Perform operator maintenance and checks on equipment such as cleaning, waxing, armor-all, vacuuming, greasing, checking fluid levels and adding as required, checking tires air pressure, checking all lights, windshield wipers, braking system, mirrors, windows, damage to vehicle, and makes operator’s adjustments, and repairs.
• Ensures proper housekeeping practices are observed.
• Performs all other tasks as directed by supervisor.
• Accountable for all vehicles and heavy equipment assigned.
• Assists other crafts and trades personnel in their daily operations.
• Airfield sweeper operator rotation is required for all shop personnel.
• Responsible for the timely reporting of accidents, injuries and “near miss” and hazardous situations.
• Follow established safety procedures and utilizes safety protective equipment and clothing.
• On Call required for emergency and after hours events.
Work Conditions:
• Work is performed indoors and outdoors.  Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.
• Frequently required to perform heavy lifting up to 80lbs.
• Requires extensive standing, walking, kneeling, and bending.
• Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, dust, dirt, and noise.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of 10  years’ experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., cranes, road graders, front-end loaders, bulldozers, rollers, graders, steer skid loaders, carryalls, large industrial tractors, backhoes, excavators, stake bed trucks, dump trucks, tractor-trailers, water distributors, rough terrain forklifts, sweepers, and bob-cats) required.
• High school diploma or GED and valid state CDL required.  Technical or trade school completion required.
• Valid Heavy Equipment Certification or comparable experience.
• One year experience in a military industrial environment highly preferred.
• Ability to lift 80lbs.
• Knowledgeable in flexible and rigid pavements, security fencing, storm drain systems.
• Heavy equipment operations.
• On-Call 24-7 response with the ability to respond to base emergency within 1- hour.
