Job Description:
The academic advisor at the Western Kentucky University Owensboro campus plays an important role in our students' educational experiences through academic advisement of WKU students and connecting with prospective transfer students throughout the region. Advisors can be effective in helping students understand the purpose of a university education, explore the expectations and demands of their chosen career path, and initiate a plan in order to graduate and utilize resources for a path in their chosen career. This position works closely with the Regional Campuses advising team and Academic Advising & Retention Center to provide guidance, support, and encouragement for students at the Owensboro Regional Campus and surrounding region. Reporting to Associate Vice President for Extended Learning & Outreach, this position will play a vital role as part of the Owensboro Campus team in supporting student and community engagement.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree
• Demonstrated professional advising experience or equivalent in related field
• Ability to work with diverse populations of students, peers, and public
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including early morning, evening and weekend hours
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and be highly organized and adaptable
• Ability to work independently, but also work cooperatively within an advisement staff with a learner-centered and service-oriented philosophy
• Strong presentation skills with the ability to relate to diverse audiences
• Must have a valid driver's license and be able to travel to off-site locations
• Excellent interpersonal skills including listening, communication and teamwork
• Working knowledge of basic office software (word processing, e-mail systems, spreadsheets, databases, etc.)
Additional Information:
Salary Grade:   107    Salary Range:  $30,000 - $35,000
