Overview / Job Summary
Commonwealth Rolled Products is a leading manufacturer of Aluminum rolled products for the Automotive, Commercial, and Industrial markets. The Company operates its production facility in Lewisport, KY with the support of an Automotive Innovation Center for R&D, Sales and Field Service in Madison Heights (DET), and Inside Sales in the Cleveland, OH area.
Our production facility is seeking to add a talented Continuous Improvement Specialist to its team. The purpose of this role is to lead the implementation, training, teaching, coaching and management of a world class continuous improvement system utilizing lean and six sigma techniques within an operational unit.
Responsibilities Include
• Safety:
• Actively participate in maintaining a zero-incident safety culture.
• Support Delivery of the Operating Plan
• Work closely with the business leadership team to plan, support, and lead overall activities to improve Plant performance, and productivity, and decrease cost.
• Champion and assist in the development of strategic A3s for the plant, departments, and   1 x 1 problem solving.
• Champion, deliver, and manage (where applicable) Visual Management systems.
• Develop the Problem-solving capacity
• Coach and develop plant personnel to develop a problem-solving culture at all levels of the organization.
• Deliver CI training, and development for all salary and hourly employees. This includes Yellow, Green, Black Belt, and Master Black Belt training progressions.
• Provide lean methodology expertise for plant wide CI deployment, including core tools:  5s, Flow, MDI, A3 Thinking, Standardized Work, Value Stream Mapping, and Problem Solving.
• Promote and develop analytical skills for the measurement, analysis and evaluation of process data to accurately identify and document improvements.
• Develop Leadership skills
• Maximize the value of the CI Team services to assist the Plant in reaching targets & goals including development.
• Lead using a coaching style with a servant leadership mindset.
• Demonstrate effective team facilitation skills to engage the team and deliver results.
• Lead activities to identify the required improvement opportunities.
• Lead CI event follow-up to monitor the progress of planned improvement implementations to assure timely action, appropriate management support, and achievement of expected benefits
• Learn the process and be an active and contributing part of the Management Team; developing themselves for future Operations roles.
• Live and champion the Commonwealth Rolled Products core values; Safety, Integrity, Customer Focus, Ownership, Excellence, and Teamwork.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Engineering, Manufacturing/Operations
• 5 + years personal experience having led, facilitated, or participated in over 25+ Rapid Improvement (kaizen) events and/or led, facilitated, or participated in at least 2 Six Sigma projects
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt minimum requirement
• Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal communication skills and organization skills. Must be able to prepare and deliver presentations regarding project results
• High energy, data driven, and results oriented
• Is seen as a leader by all levels of the organization
• Has a personal history of improvement
• Proven ability to lead and coach improvement projects and events to a successful and sustained outcome
• Can “carry the room” able to demand attention from the team and others that you work with
• Communicate and coach at all levels on an even level
• Is organized and has a “process mindset”
• Competent in the TPS tools: from fundamental Takt Time and cell development to advanced TPS tools such as: 2P/3P, Policy Deployment
• Can work independent and with teams both as a consultant/lead and as a team member
• Can be humble and a driver at the same time
• Can see the “big picture and the very tactical elements” is capable of understanding and articulating the right level to the people you are working with at a specific time
• Can drive improvement by influence without having direct responsibility and/or accountability
• Can internalize and learn new process very quickly and then be able to use the lean tools to any process with compromising the tool’s integrity
• Willingness to travel occasionally, as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
• MBA or Masters in Engineering
• Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
• Lean Certification preferred, which includes both education and the hands-on ability to lead teams and implement improvements
• Working knowledge of aluminum processes
