Overview / Job Summary
Commonwealth Rolled Products is a leading manufacturer of Aluminum rolled products for the Automotive, Commercial, and Industrial markets. The Company operates its production facility in Lewisport, KY with the support of an Automotive Innovation Center for R&D, Sales and Field Service in Madison Heights (DET), and Inside Sales in the Cleveland, OH area.
Our production facility is seeking to add a talented a Senior Process and Product Quality (PPQ) Specialist (Experienced Metallurgist) to its Process and Prodcut Quality (PPQ) team.  The purpose of this role is to lead and support all process and quality related aspects of the Casting Department.
Responsibilities Include
• Actively participate in maintaining a zero incident safety culture.
• Live and champion the Commonwealth Rolled Products core values; Safety, Integrity, Customer Focus, Ownership, Excellence, and Teamwork.
• Perform the work assigned by the Casting management team and Technical leaders within expected guidelines.
• Operate in such a way that helps develop and maintain within the Casting Department, a climate of mutual respect, effective working relationships, teamwork, and commitment to continuous improvement.
• Coach and mentor the area engineers, technicians and supervisors on casting best practices while implementing sustainable solutions.
• Keep up to date on new technologies and look for opportunities to implement in the casthouses.
• Provide metallurgical advice and more-formalized training on metallurgical topics as needed to advance employee understanding of casting process.
• Assist production and maintenance personnel in day-to-day problem solving of process issues.
• Recommend, evaluate, and initiate improvements to casting processes, in the areas of quality, process control and cost control.
• Understand needs of internal and external customers to the Casting area, and ensure that those needs are being met,
• Investigate and provide input on disposition (sell, rework, scrap) of internally rejected product (ingot).
• Interface with various Commonwealth groups outside of the Casting area, to optimize carrying out of core accountabilities.  These include Production Planning, Technical, Information Technology, Sales, Engineering, and Environmental as well as all other production areas.
• Interface with vendors who supply the Casting area, to ensure acceptable quality of their products and services.
• Support the Quant Lab’s daily operations and functions
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree minimum in Metallurgical, Chemical or Materials Engineering is required
• 15+ years of related industrial experience
• Experience with aluminum alloys
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Technical and process management skills are needed in this position, with potential ability to work multiple projects simultaneously
• Must possess strong decision making and problem solving skills including the ability to solve problems while exhibiting practical judgment and realistic understanding of the issues involved
• Ability to overcome obstacles and find reasonable resolutions to situations on a case by case basis as encountered
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC), statistical analysis and continuous improvement principles
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 and TS 16949 principles
• Experience in a union environment
